Well whaddya know?? "Brummie Simon" is finally managing to overcome his global warming skepticism, after checking the latest arctic ice shrinkeage figures, and admitting that there may after all be something in it all.

        That's about time Cali!

A rather disappointing trip to Musicroom.com in Brighton yesterday. They have made their branch there smaller and are in the throws of doing so! Not very promising. It's off to Eastbourne today, and having rang Bonners there, yesterday, I am hopeful of success. I might even try the Yamaha tyros 5 keyboard! (You never know!) Anyone have a spare £3500! :)

It certainly is. After early morning mist had cleared the temperature rose sharply and is now nearly 20 degrees, probably warmer in the sun, with absolutely no wind at all. A couple of months ago and this would have been the heatwave we never had.

A very pleasant morning for a walk.

Yes. Here unfortunately a north-easterly has got up since I decided it might be nice to do a bit of sunbathing this afternoon, keeping temperatures no higher than 16 C; so it'll have to be a walk instead.

Reminder for night-hawks and insomniacs (yes, and early risers too, antongould!): http://astronomynow.com/2015/09/22/d...28september-2/

By 2:50am BST on 28 September, the Moon will be half immersed in the Earth’s umbral shadow and the Moon will be some 30° high in the southwest for observers in the centre of the British Isles

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

                  No - it's the moon.

Clear skies forecast for this part of the country tonight - UNTIL 3:00 am! We might just catch the partial lunar eclipse for once!!

It looks like a London view - Notting Hill/Paddington area.

Long time no see (or post) but checking in from a very stormy Newport, RI where strong wind and heavy rain are heralding the presence of Tropical Storm Joaquin plus another Atlantic storm system. After a dry summer we are now being inundated. The rain is always welcome, especially after weeks of dry weather. My 60 gallon (US) rain barrel will be filled to overflowing in no time at all. Best to all from this side of the Atlantic. marthe

It's good to hear from you marthe! I had noticed the weather systems winding themselvs up while trundling northwards with your bit of the coastline in their sights! Here by contrast we are "luxuriating" under an enormous high pressure blocking system that's pushing the bad weather down across the western Mediterranean at the moment (heh heh heh for any late holidaymarkers from here ), while at the same time prefiguring a cold winter for us, according to some calculations.

If you click on this link it gives you a great picture of thunderstorm activity across central and N. America, and right across the Atlantic to Europe, N Africa and the Middle East, including here. I imagine when there are enough tracking stations worldwide we'll get to see what's happening everywhere!

Well, up here in the northern fells, it has been a string of perfect, idyllic late summer / early autumn days.
Best September I can remember in years.
Makes up for a lot of the 'summer' that wasn't.

I have a real feeling of storing up sunshine against the long winter nights. It's just difficult not to overdo it!

A very fine day here today with temps up to 23 degrees, an almost cloudless sky, bags of warm sunshine and virtually nil wind.

I recall this very week in 1985 when the temperature got up to around 30 degrees for about three or four days and that was after a similarly dismal summer.
