Well, I mistakenly chanced it with yesterday's rain, notwithstanding having predicted it before setting out for the Serpentine galleries with a couple of cycling friends I hadn't seen for some time, and returned home pretty bedraggled. And I have just rescued from the line a load of laundry which showed no sign of drying under today's cloudiness and humidity, and it is now draped over every available door - despite temperatures nearly peaking at 20 C. What a disappointing Bank Holiday! - its always depressing when the last one before Christmas turns out thus.

Well, BBm, sorry, but 'oop 'ere, whiteish broken cloud, bit o' blue sky and a bit o' brightness and sun.
        See these fingers? Crossed?
        Ahem. It's not 10 a.m. yet.

Not too bad a day here, dry, mild but overcast, though of course it's not a holiday. The banks are shut, as is my English-run office, but the shops are all open, and the schools are in.

Yep, same here. Dull, but at least it's not raining - yet! Everything's functioning, but no post, apparently.

The most unbelievable thunderstorm is firing off over Brussels right now, judging by the live lightning map.

Any takers for moving the August Bank Holiday back to the beginning of the month? Can't remember what year it was changed but by the last day of August the summer is played out anyway. What was the justification given for moving it?

Personally, I'd be happy to have all Bank Holidays done away with, apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day and added on to my holiday entitlement to take when I choose instead of having a day off foisted on me that I don't particularly want. Probably too late for me anyway, as in just under four years time I'll be having a permanent holiday.

Been pouring here but not cold.

                          You miserable old so-and-so!

Anyway, I seem to remember that the reason for moving the August BH to the end of the month was to shortent the gap between the previous arrangement and Christmas.

Series of much rumbling and then spectacular thunderstorm and monsoon-like rain and hail here in Ultima Thule - then suddenly brilliant sunshine.
'Official' weather for the area during that same time? 'Light cloud'. Ahem.

I think we should all have the same holiday entitlements as MPs.

A good mix of sun and showers today. Although quite short ones!
