      I was goody-goody two-shoes at 19. I must have "matured" late.

I posted on Thursday last about the terrible visibility here caused by smog from Paris being blown across the channel, and affecting S. Wales, I expect you all thought I was making it up! Today's Guardian has a report that it was so bad in Paris on Wednesday that the Eiffel Tower was obscured from view and today they are banning a large percentage of cars. Paris is now officially the most polluted city in the world, beating Shanghai. http://www.theguardian.com/world/201...asures-traffic

Yesterday, after the greyness cleared, was a brilliantly sunny afternoon, no wind at all, nicely warm, and I spent it all outdoors. Beautiful sunset with the thin crescent of the new moon and Venus (not far above the Western horizon) making a lovely sight. Perishing cold and grey today though!

I guess it was the fact that there was a north-north-east wind at the time that gave me pause for thought....

Yes we had a very productive day. Mrs Flay putting far too much out to take to the dumpit and me slyly sneaking things back to hide in the shed!

Venus and the moon made a beautiful sight.
                  Rain due soon I believe

And if you'd look the day before (21st), to the right and down to the horizon, you would have seen Mars hanging there.
What a mixed bag this week, bitterly cold mornings due to wind and clearing to lovely sunny afternoons. Yesterday a very heavy ground frost, today wild, wild, wind (25-35mph) but not the heavy rain forecast, surprisingly warm at over 12° if you can get out of the wind. I was hoping to get some garden work done, but fear there's a lot of wetness on the way.
Had someone round this morning to quote for fencing (vital) and other (non-vital) works - getting rid of Japanese Zen (which depends on his quote of course!)

Why is it that the sun can only shine for us at 24hrs at a time?

You live in the Arctic Circle at the wrong time of the year?

Pretty much a gale blowing here now, though such as it was, the rain seems to have just about died out now. Two of our wheelie bins have blown over, despite their comparatively sheltered location. Has anyone ventured out today yet?

You seem to have had the same weather as here S_A. This morning rain, Met Office warning of wind - which has been around 45mph which is less than the forecasted 65mph! Then rain cleared, few sunny spells but wind still buffeting, just watched a magpie hanging on to a branch for grim death trying to keep his balance and No, I haven't been out except to refill the birds' feeders. I'm feeling a tad grumpy because not only have I lost an hour with the clocks changing, I slept in - so I've lost even more! I'd intended to get a couple of hours garden clearing in ready for green waste collection but, Alas and Alack, that's not going to happen .... Cheerful little soul ain't I?

Think it's going to continue very unsettled - I thought March was in like a lion and out like a lamb?

When the rain wasn't looking, the sun sneaked out today, so I managed a half-hour walk. But a lot of rain in the last 48 hours - on Friday, I started digging up the mud walk in my back garden, ready to lay a pebble pathway (brings tears to the eyes just contemplating it). I now appear to have dug a canal - which, thinking about it, will save me quite a bit of money on the pebbles; just a bit of plastic lining, top up the water every now and then, stick a gondola on it to get round: beat that for a water feature!

I did try doing some more digging yesterday, but gave up when I stuck the spade in and the soil stayed still and I sunk a couple of inches.

The rain has now eased off, but it's very windy and with sleet forecast overnight: I shall stay indoors and do housework, instead.
