....the painted animation so clever and fluid....

Quite a bit of snow in North Cheshire.
The lad works at Manchester Airport, did a 3am to 10am shift today, took him an hour and a half to drive the 10 miles home.
Fortunately I'm working from home today.

Rain, hail and snow an hour ago left a sprinkling on the ground here; with the temperature now down to zero and the ground wet I think I'll do the sensible thing and not venture out for some jazz in Dalston, as originally planned. I hope they get some audience.

In Ultima Thule, snow just passed through for the umpteenth time today, so I fear, may be coming your way. AND it is clearing, moon out, so ..........maybe ice etc??

My brother was due to pick up a friend off a New York flight due into Manchester Airport at 09.30. Was diverted to Heathrow then took off for Manchester, circled in the air for a few hours and landed at Manchester at 18.30! Brother's friend took off from New York in a blizzard, no problem, then a couple of inches of snow closes Manchester.

in addition to snow showers and a deadly cold north wind we had an earthquake the other night

not as large as elsewhere but very noisy and very startling ....

Aren't these newly light evenings wonderful? Gone half-five and only a deepening dusk rather than total nightfall. Today has been lovely, sunny and bright, same as yesterday - which had a high of nearly 8° and the promised snow overnight turned to rain which, as it was only just a smidge below freezing, resulted in no frost or ice. Plenty of white sparkling tops of mountains of course upcountry and lots of snowdrops, so pretty and delicate.
Calum, didn't you have an earthquake last year as well?

Cold and grey, with snow this morning (light covering) turning to sleet and rain this afternoon, but with a temperature not exceeding + 2 C, and a raw nor-norwester now picking up.

It looks like winds will be in that quadrant at least until Wednesday.

Better day yesterday; in the scenic sense....really beautiful driving the B-roads of NYorks. Same weather today but the snow shrunk mostly by a thaw....0C....my Border Collie really doesn't care what it's like - full steam ahead no matter what....<boring Jazz Record RQ's>

I see. If you can visualise snow coming in roughly horizontal to the ground then you will understand what it is like in the Great Glen today. Also, a bad boulder fall just a mile south of here has closed the road to the south. Roll on the summer,eh?

The temperature dropped to its lowest for at least 2 years here last night - minus 4 C - and doesn't seem likely to exceed + 1 today. At least it's relatively sunny, and the winds of the last few days have dropped away.

Incidentally, anyone who holds to the common myth about it being "too cold" for snow, should turn to the BBC weather report and log Toronto into the window for a current ongoing report: it was minus 14 C and snowing heavily there when I checked at noon, and to add to the pleasure blowing a force 6 north-easterly!

Then we're warmer here! Just -3.7° overnight and today it's struggled to get to 3.3° but, unlike the past few days, we've had no sun. Talking to family in E. Lancs which had the snow last week, twice on Thursday they had 'thundersnow' I must say I'm quite envious as I've not experienced it. (Dunno about anyone else but this cold weather makes me sooo hungry, I just want to eat all the time, comforting stuff, like rib-sticking stews followed by apple pie and custard. )

Yes! I'll eat a main meal at 6:00 and be ravenous by the middle of University Challenge - and the mid-day cravings, too! Agony!
