Unable to light stove last night as I had cleaned it ready for the sweep to come early this morning. He has reroped the door and directed me not to light the stove until tomorrow, to let the adhesive set. Have these been the two coldest days of winter so far?

And is it, really, eccentric to wear an overcoat, scarf and gloves (on top of four other layers) while pottering about the house ?

Probably. That just demonstrates the efficacy of Murphy's (aka Sod's) Law. It's never been known to fail.

No. It's very sensible, though it must make pottering - and computing - difficult. I look around and see colleagues wearing not much less. (See my post yesterday evening.) The heating is not functioning in my part of the building (Murphy again) and electric heaters have been rushed in. Engineers have been summoned and report that a repair cannot be effected until the weekend, as (and I'm not making this up, you know) brazing is required.

I have not yet been able to ascertain if a monkey is involved.

It's been snowing here this evening and the local weather forecast is giving out some significant snowfall tonight into tomorrow in this neck of the woods. It's not going to last long, though, as mild air is said to push through on Thursday.
