      Sorry to hear that.

IMO the best rain in the world falls into one of two categories.

      1. The sort that stops cricket matches at advantageous times.

      2. The soft rain in Ireland that seems to help Fuschias abound, especially out in the west.
      (Probably all over, though).

......and here in Ulitma Thule. Temp fell from 11C yesterday and is now 3C tops, with gusty, bitter westerlies bringing sweeps of sleet, rain and nastiness.

Mild and bitter was once a favoured combination when I served in pubs.

Yes - whatever happened to Mild? I don't think I've ever tasted it.

                  amazing.

A staple in my student days, (in the deepest south) it was even cheaper than the cheapest bitter. (47p in the early 80's IIRC)

Its really just brown ale in a cask , isn't it?

Oh, is it? I'm very partial to a bottle of Newcastle Brown - very reliable and eminently quaffable.

Not from my recollection from my early beer drinking days (1/1d a pint for mild when I started). Most brown ale was much sweeter and gassier than draught mild.

Goodness! 2/- for a pint of heavy when I started. The other staples were 4/11d a gallon and about 5/3d for twenty.

And OT for here, an LP was about £1-13-0.

Was known as a pint of mixed oop here.
Can't be doing with that hanging out washing malarkey.
Not too bad a day here, cold but dry at least.

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
