    Typhoon Ruby (aka Hagupit)

The storm’s path is quite a bit to the north of us now - at least 250 km - we’ll still be affected though. Last year our house was directly in the firing line, so this is not quite as bad, but it will take three days to pass because it's going very slow.

It’s been extremely difficult to forecast the track of this typhoon. The Asian countries put it on more-or-less the same path as last year, the US (in Hawaii) initially said it would turn north before it got to us but has now revised it to converge with the UK's prediction, which has consistently been it would take the path it now appears to be taking. So that’s one up for our computer modelling!

We'll lose power for some time - maybe a long time, who knows? - but I'll post again as soon as I can. It's due to affect us Sat-Sun night.

We'll be thinking of you pabs and looking forward to your return following your stormy interlude...

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.

Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

        Yes - best wishes, pabs!

Another frost this morning - minus2 outside as I write, but clear and sunny. Temperature due to rise to 6 later on, but with dull clouds, too.

Tiny dusting of snow overnight, temps down to -3C, all dirty grey and cowering this a.m. Steadily clouding. Fells disappearing.

I hope you all stay safe and without damage. I must say I'm relieved that my son left Tacloban last week. No doubt he will be wishing that he was still there to help.

From my limited understanding, the slow westward progress of the typhoon means that during the time its main axis is over land it will weaken due to receiving less energy from the sea, its main sustaining source. While this is worth factoring into the consequences, it won't I'm afraid have much effect in lessening rainfall, so best of luck, Pabs.

Well - just shows the value of Alphabet Associations: when I checked the latest Forum posts, the sky was clear and sunny. Perfect weather for a walk, I thought - I'll just see what's going on with the puzzles. Half-an-hour with Pete, Willy and Thomas and the skies clouded over and it's begun to rain - quite heavily, and with sleet in there, too. Had I gone for my walk, I'd just be at the furthest point and getting soaked.

I've now got to set the I puzzle - I think I'd prefer getting soaked!

Strangely the opposite here - Grey has turned to blue - I'm not just referring to the relief from the burden of AA response! Now you'll have to put up with half-soaked replies you get!

                          - hardly; hegehog got the answer before the vitual ink had dried!

And, after a half-hour downpour, the sun came out, the skies cleared and I got my walk after all! There's obviously been some snow somewhere (though I can't see any on the hills from here) as a couple of cars had a "gathering" of the stuff still on their roofs and bonnets.

I'm really surprised no-one has mentioned, due to cloudless skies, the wonderful moonlit nights we've been having (it was full on Saturday), it's been bright as day plus - what is that really bright star twinkling away in the East? Actually it's NNE, not too far from the horizon (I mean you don't have to gaze up to the heavens to see it) and was so bright around 11pm, I feel I should know what it is, does anyone have one of those night sky apps on their phone to identify?

Ontopic, another smashing day, blue skies from the outset, not warm although it peaked at just over 7° at midday the wind has been cutting. Last night it got down to 1° by 9pm and we were promised snow flurries on high ground but the Black Mountains this morning didn't have a trace of a sparkle. Supposedly turning very wet and icy tomorrow here

Yes! Walking into the kitchen late on Sat... well, early Sunday - the floor was covered in white/blue light, and the room was full of moonlight, as it was shining full through the window.
