Your Berghaus must be a better one than mine because press studs and Velcro are far more ideal than the toggles I have to tolerate. It wasn't cheap and no way could it take the storm lashing we had last week. On the one hand, such events are rare but on the other, this is the season for them.
It wasn't cheap either, around the £200 mark I recall. I did buy last Winter a Regatta 3-in-1, that zips and velcros up to over the chin but the hood has toggles you interlink, (that was cheap - half price, normally £70) Do you mean your marriage has been like the weather - stormy?
from me too. I'm with you on Berghaus - my last did several Alpine/Pyrenean trails, and I've recently bought another (a "Long Cornice ll" jacket with integral hood much as you describe) for winter birdwatching at home. It is longer than most jackets these days, coming to below the hips. But for my last trip to the Pyrenees I did invest in a RAB waterproof jacket and overtrousers, and have a RAB quilted jacket. RAB are excellent, lightweight, and are still made in the UK as far as I know (as opposed to China). It depends very much what you do outdoors. My advice to Pet would be to get along to a specialist outdoor shop like Cotswold which have knowledgeable staff and go through the options. The best are expensive, be warned.
