As vile a morning such as we've not seen for many weeks. Lashing rain, strong winds and cold with it. Autumn seems to have arrived!

The afternoon was much calmer, drier and a touch warmer.

Four thunderstorms in a row on a not particularly warm October day here is pretty good going! - more what might normally be expected on the break-up of a summer heatwave.

(I hope this clear up by 7 pm - I have a 2 mile walk over to my friend's place, from when we go to Forest Hill to catch the Overground to Dalston!)

Hope it clears up for you S_A.

Alternating between horrible and nasty here. Bit thundery, some very heavy downpours.

          Yuck !!

Two lovely days in a row here in Newport, RI...after the dark and stormy weather of earlier this week. We did not see the blood moon here because of cloudy skies at moon set.

Well, compared with the heavy rainfalls that we were forecast, the week as a whole has been very pleasant in the Pennines: quite chilly, with a crisp edge to the air, but bright an clear most of the time - the downpours generally kept to night time. Quite hot in the sunshine this morning when sheltered from the wind.

Hello, marthe - lovely to hear from you again. Is a "blood moon" the same as a "harvest moon"? (And is a "blue moon" an aristocratic "blood moon"?)

I am told that recognised centre of weather forecasting excellence the Daily Express says the worst winter for a century will begin in November. Can S_A and/or the Sage of Birmingham confirm this?

Never read the Daily Depress is a point of principle with me.

Most impressive display of distant lightning to the south east here this evening, lasting for at least an hour: parts of Kent must have been thoroughly clobbered.

I've had nearly 48 hours without phone or internet. It coincided with a typhoon over Manila (200 miles to the north) so I thought they were related.

But no! Someone had stolen a length of telephone wire, apparently. It's fixed now. Typical.

OT: mild with balmy sunshine here. Just the odd very light shower earlier, seems to be set fair now. Hope it stays that way, have to cycle for a curry with mates in the West End ce soir

Likeminded weather down here to, as with Cali's.
