Not a bad day today! Still no rain!

After the heavy rain yesterday morning (good for the garden) it's not been too bad today if a trifle windier than one would expect in early August.

Someone mentioned the Daily Express has been up to its usual tricks and forecast very high temperatures in August. Anyone got any more on this?

Yesterday was mainly heavy rain with an hour of cloudless sunshine. Today, the exact opposite - sunny all day with just an hour of heavy rainfall. Yin & Yang.

They're concerned about Hurricane Bertha hitting us early next week, given that the jet stream is currently right across us, and likely to continue on its present track, so any storms travelling up the western north Atlantic will be heading right in our direction.

Meanwhile, talk of showers at any time and in any place is discouraging me from venturing far on the bike.

Still uncertain whether Big Bertha is going to dump on us or not... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/we...ng-summer.html

                Nice cycling weather today, though

I had a lovely American great aunt Bertha (1879-1971), of Malden Massachusetts, with whom I used to correspond. She crossed the Atlantic once, in 1902.

I don't know, did she work for BBC outside broadcasts?

I found this item about hurricane names. I see 2016 is due a Hurricane Richard

Disappointingly Bertha (descended from 9 generations of New England settlers by the way) lived a most un-hurricanelike life of blameless spinsterhood.

I wonder if there's ever to be a Hurricane Cliff!
