Stormy Weather

Temperatures reached 28 C in central London this afternoon (84 F) and it felt like it! Now the sky is turning a very ugly mixture of orange and dark grey, with winds getting up and a lot of lightning and thunder approaching from the south-west.

warm and with good sunny spells here today. Drops of rain already, and clouds closing in.

I didn't know you had to inter rail to get from Dundee to London....

Good bit of sleuthing on your part. We're staying very near Runswick Bay. Weather was fine this morning and afternoon and we went to the beach to jostle with folk exercising their dogs on the strand. Plenty of sand castles built and tested to destruction. Glad to be indoors now as earlier on it was raining cats and dogs with accompanying thunder.

Will no doubt don waterproofs tomorrow and venture out to either Whitby or Scarborough - depending on how brave / foolhardy we all feel

Hi, Tevvy - no "sleuthing" involved - just many precious memories of holidays in that part of the country; Ravenscar is one of my favourite haunts: that cliffside walk! I've never been to Runswick Bay, though: must rectify that sometime.

Some excellent weather for a break, if the coast has been as lucky as the Pennines lately; but the rain (that's been forecast ever since Tuesday) has finally started. No bad thing - as Barbi says, we could do with a good downpour. Hope it lasts throughout the night and clears up completely for your trip tomorrow. (If you enjoy Indian food, the restaurant in Whitby railway station is well worth a visit, by the way.)

Yesterday's forecast said we would have heavy rain around 6pm - and indeed it got quite dark and windy and we had approximately 20 minutes of light drizzle, just enough to darken the road, no more. Today was forecast cloudy with sunny spells, the spells have taken a long time to materialise through the clourd and it's beautiful now, around 22°, bit too late in the day though.

It was a full moon yesterday, no sign of it here due to cloud but on Friday it was like having searchlights outside and I see on August 10th there is to be a Super Full Moon.

A similar sort of day here today, after this morning's rain cleared: lumpy cumulus occupying most of the sky, not sure if it wants to grow big enough to produce showers, let alone thunderstorms, but too much to make sunbathing any sort of prospect, despite the pleasantly breezy 23 degree warmth. The BBC spoke of temperatures possibly rising to their highest yet this summer by this Friday coming, and with Brummie Simon not yet on his website we might have to wait for the Countryfile forecast for the week ahead.

If the East Coast of Yorkshire has had the same weather as the West/North Yorkshire Pennines, then this hope came true! Constant light rainfall overnight, and a gloriously sunny day today - really beautiful.

...and an unforgettable afternoon, not least just about all the extant flying Spitfires - a 12-strong wing, coming down out of the sun, truly shivered the timbers! Plus other interesting aircraft, particularly from the US.

Great day down south again. Saw The Chanctonbury Morris Men at Sheffield Park Gardens in the afternoon.
