On topic, a real mixed bag today. Sunny and very muggy until around the time I left work when the heavens opened. On the plus side I haven't had to water the plants tonight. The downside is that it's going to make it more difficult to pick those winners at Sandown tomorrow.
Took my oldest lad to see the Tour when it visited Hampshire many years ago. Not really my idea of a spectator sport, but glad I went along anyway.

Pouring down here tonight, but forecast looks OK for the next few days. The BBC forecasts seem a bit erratic ATM.

Pouring with rain and very dark. Can't see much anyway. Has autumn come already?

Pouring with rain and very dark, too, Salymap. How about that? I suppose there must be somewhere with nice weather!

Seems to be brightening up a little here, after a wet night and dreary morning. Breezy and still rather warm.

Yesterday, in Ultima Thule, we had the first rain to last for more than two minutes for over three weeks.

We must have quite a bit of rain during the night as certainly was rather post-rain outside this morning! Turning out to be rather muggy again with a gusty wind.

I had a quick look at the live Tour de Yorks, looked beautiful weather and I always forget how lovely the countryside is there.
Here we had light drizzle in the evening, heavy rain from about 1am-6am, day has improved and now very sunny, just over 21°, windy and masses of thunderbugs (where do they come from?) We didn't have the scorching temps that London & the SE had at the end of the week, but it wasn't bad, nothing to complain about, in fact so far it's been a perfect Summer. Salymap, nice to see you back posting here!

The opposite of yesterday here in the French Pennines - began drizzly (and there were signs of a lot of rainfall overnight) but cleared up by mid-morning and it's been as lovely as seen on telly. Les Bicyclettes de Bradford don't get here until tomorrow, but there are quite a few campers and caravanners here already, marking their vantage points and contributing greatly to the Pension funds of all the local tea shops and cafés. Wonderful sight: a woman who looked to be in her late 70s, and about five foot three tall striding resoucefully to her place - carrying a set of folding steps! Nowt like being prepared.

Anna's right - in these conditions, the Pennine countryside is lovely.

Well, it had to happen, sooner or later.

I came in about 15 minutes ago, switched on Le Tour de Yorks, they were just passing a ruin and the caption said Le Chateau de Holmsley I bet the Tourist Board are rubbing their hands at the way Yorkshire and the countryside (and the friendly locals!) have been portrayed.

I don't know S. Yorks that well except for York City, never been to Sheffield, Leeds, etc., Yorkshire to me means N. Yorks which I go to frequently but not too long ago I had to go by train from York to Blackburn (!) and going through Calderdale I was most impressed, it was very tempting to get off at Hebden Bridge. Lovely weather there for cycling it seems at the moment, bit cloudy but dry. Hope it stays that way, rain on newly surfaced roads isn't good for two wheels.

Michael Portillo's Great British Railway Journeys (a favourite programme of mine) has been a constant reminder of the beautiful and interesting countryside we have in the UK.

On topic, it's a much better day than forecast, as was yesterday. A touch cloudy but plenty of sun and very warm and pleasant. The rain on Friday was very timely for gardens etc.

The forecasts do seem to be a bit off beam lately.

Ooh! I was on the telly?!

A gorgeous day for the cyclists - sunshine with light clouding and a gentle cooling breeze. I watched through binoculars from a hillside above the approach to Keighley - superb overview for those who didn't want the "whooosh" of the cyclists as they passed them. Excellent turnout, too - and such a balanced approach to National stereotypes - on the way home, I passed a couple; she dressed in a beret with a string of onions slung over her shoulders, he in flat cap, a black pudding around his neck and carrying a rather startled-looking Whippet. The weather looks set for the rest of the day, which is very good news for the Cafés and ad hoc refreshment tents.

Oh - and a lovely sight: a young lass on crutches with a cast on her leg - the whole crowd around her took care to make sure she could see and not get stood on.
