I've been maintaining quite a low profile on this thread recently, because the weather in these parts has been so deplorable that I might have disgraced myself. Things have not been helped by miss m posting pictures of herself and partner enjoying an al fresco drink in Durham this weekend. It could have been Rome. However, today things look as though they may be improving. I do hope so. I hope teamsaint is having a fine time in Skye, though I fear the weather may not be brilliant at the moment. For Anna, until teamsaint posts, here and here are two pictures I took in Skye in March 2006. It is without doubt a lovely part of the world.
Next week I am again taking advantage of Scotrail's kind offer to the aged of a £19 (£17 with railcard) return ticket anywhere in Scotland. This time my destination will be Plockton in the north west, five hours by train from Dundee, changing in Perth and Inverness. I'm looking forward to the prawns, and I understand there is now a local micro brewery!
I confess to never having heard of Plockton but what with the Scotrail deal, the prawns, the microbrewery and that photo, it seems to beckon ... one day, one day
Rained pretty much nonstop today here in South Skye, so spent the day pottering round getting bearings, poking round the Clan Donald centre etc.
Forecast is good for rest of week except weds, so plenty of chance to see what there is to see in some reasonable weather.
Not sure I have a way of posting piccies easily via the technology I have with me, if not I 'll plonk some on the site when I get back.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
Oh, and any interesting cloud photos for S_A., I hope he wasn't disappointed by the Wisteria today, the ones here are still in full bloom and looking so lovely.
How nice of you to ask, Anna.
In fact the wisteria at that house is nearly over; but what a beautiful garden! Mostly plants have been allowed to self-seed in the woodland area, which being on a steep slope is like descending into a gorge; lovely to see pink Campion brightening up the shaded areas everywhere. Very nice couple and their son living in the largish mid-Victorian house there, half Swiss chalet-half gothic in style with a fantastic external cast iron stair leading up to a first floor balcony, with the aforementioned wisteria draped all around. They greeted all visitors warmly, as did their half poodle/half cocker spaniel called Ariel! and offered large slices of 4 different homemade cakes and big mugs of tea at £2 and £1.50 respectively. Everyone was saying, how lucky to live in such lovely surroundings, let alone within 6 miles of Trafalgar Square!
That came following several hours of traipsing after the South London School of Samba doing their River Effra piece through local parks whose lakes drain into the river, followed by an historical guided walk through an area north of Dulwich Village which was converted from the mansion and sumptuous grounds of the Bessemer estate, (he of Bessemer Converter fame), into a mini-garden suburb of Homes Fit For Heroes in 1921. Part of the area was where Gaumont once had its studios and made over 100 films - one of which is on youtube apparently and shows the district like it was in the 1950s. Wish I'd noted down the title!
I just caught my image in the bathroom mirror - I seem to have picked up quite a tan!

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I was on Skye last summer. Can recommend a couple of peachy long walks if you're into hiking.
