We are experiencing the most benign conditions that we can remember. At ground level at least, there has been no snow worthy of the name, very little ice, and although my own village has been awash from time to time, this has been because nearly every gulley is completely choked. Yes, we have had some heavy rain, but usually no longer than a few hours at a time. Very little wind, too.
It is truly dreadful to see what is happening elsewhere, with all that devastation.

I also enjoyed Hugh Laurie's humourous comment this morning:
"Not a cloud in the sky. The weather's shagged out, staring at the ceiling, its underwear strewn across the south of England."
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I'm heading 200 miles south this evening for a couple of days. I can't help wondering whether it's a wise move.
Beautiful spring-like afternoon - much milder than the actual 8 degrees C; I was overheated on my afternoon stroll. First dwarf daffs about to break into flower. Seemed like payback time for all we've had to endure. Washing almost dried on the line. Even the cats were friendly!

"Quintus" came and went over the weekend. Now "Rex" is here. At the moment, medium-sized snowflakes are drifting toward the ground. No wind at the moment, though that could change. This is hardly a blizzard. With all the practice, the HH and I have become quite an efficient snow-shovelling team this winter. Maybe we should go for the gold. I hope all is well on the trans-Atlantic weather front.

Everything's hunky-dory this side of the last trans-Atlantic front to pass through (last night, as happens)!
I see temperatures have now lifted to nearer their norms on your side - even a whiff of spring briefly your way later in the week.

S_A, HH and I are looking forward to those late-week balmy temps. HH is taking a vacation week at the moment. Were it not for the snow and ice, he'd have his MG out on the road. Salt on the roads is death to the undersides of his auto. I'm glad things have calmed down on your side for the moment. Now that it's the second half of February, the sunlight has become much stronger, quite dazzling with all the snow and ice around.
