At ground level at least, there has been no snow worthy of the name, very little ice, and although my own village has been awash from time to time, this has been because nearly every gulley is completely choked. Yes, we have had some heavy rain, but usually no longer than a few hours at a time. Very little wind, too.

It is truly dreadful to see what is happening elsewhere, with all that devastation.
Make the most of it, alycidon - the jet stream is supposed to be moving back north next week!

Yes indeed. I feel guilty too. Of course, we may yet get it, but living as I do in a first floor flat and on a hill, I do feel it's unlikely that I'll be affected.

It's amazing, how forcasters can predict weather patterns. I mean they know the Jetstream is going to move next!?!?!?

A lovely day yesterday. (Makes a change!!)

Still calm here though, and apparently will be tomorrow too.

I, ofcourse, was having a humourous moment! :)

I also enjoyed Hugh Laurie's humourous comment this morning:

"Not a cloud in the sky. The weather's shagged out, staring at the ceiling, its underwear strewn across the south of England."

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Beautiful sunny day here, though cold (7º C). At miss m's for lunch, and she pointed out that the daffodils in the park opposite were already through the grass.

I'm heading 200 miles south this evening for a couple of days. I can't help wondering whether it's a wise move.

It should be - what is being said is that the worst weather is retreating further north.

Beautiful spring-like afternoon - much milder than the actual 8 degrees C; I was overheated on my afternoon stroll. First dwarf daffs about to break into flower. Seemed like payback time for all we've had to endure. Washing almost dried on the line. Even the cats were friendly!

                  Be a mixed bag today.

Experts saying the Jetstream changing, due to Artic warming?:

Yes I heard that, this morning. It's been my theory for a long time that, were the Arctic to warm up, this would take some of the energy out of the jet stream by reducing the temperature differential betwen the polar and tropical airstreams to each side of it, thus causing it to meander, which it has been doing, rather than pursuing the straight line shown in all textbooks of about 30 years of age. It would certainly account for the zig-zag weather patterns of 2012 and 2013. But what do I know? I have no scientific education - just operate on instinct. But the other thing is that this year the jet stream has been much faster, in fact clocking up record speeds of over 300 mph, this being the cause of the frequent and intense depressions we've been experiencing. That is being explained by a marked temperature differential between that over the US land mass and the sea water off their Atlantic coastline. But if that is the case, what is causing the latter? I dunno - it just gets more and more complicated, the more one thinks about it !

"Quintus" came and went over the weekend. Now "Rex" is here. At the moment, medium-sized snowflakes are drifting toward the ground. No wind at the moment, though that could change. This is hardly a blizzard. With all the practice, the HH and I have become quite an efficient snow-shovelling team this winter. Maybe we should go for the gold. I hope all is well on the trans-Atlantic weather front.

                        Hi marthe
Everything's hunky-dory this side of the last trans-Atlantic front to pass through (last night, as happens)!
I see temperatures have now lifted to nearer their norms on your side - even a whiff of spring briefly your way later in the week.

S_A, HH and I are looking forward to those late-week balmy temps. HH is taking a vacation week at the moment. Were it not for the snow and ice, he'd have his MG out on the road. Salt on the roads is death to the undersides of his auto. I'm glad things have calmed down on your side for the moment. Now that it's the second half of February, the sunlight has become much stronger, quite dazzling with all the snow and ice around.

Not entirely true, now that England and Wales have been washed away.

Very mild today. Couple of daffs fully open.
