Talking of weather, this happened near mangerton towers earlier in the week. Living on a flood plain is serious, but living on the side of a hill can bring problems too.

Plenty of rain here but the wind hasn't been as strong as forecast. I'm very lucky here as I live on high ground with the road going downhill and some distance from any waterway. It's thus very difficult to see how any flooding could occur unless there is a deluge of Biblical proportions and drains get blocked or some such disaster. Surprising how many drains you see still blocked up with dead leaves etc.

I must have read the Met Office forecast wrong - it's been an ok day here, bit of drizzle, quite warm at just under 7°, river levels here are dropping nicely and now I see all has been downgraded re rain and wind (except for Scotland) and ice is to be the main problem tomorrow.
Ah well, I'll strip the Christmas tree tomorrow and chuck the cards into recycling, it is lovely but when it finally comes around to 12th Night I think we've all had more than enough of the Festive Season and it's back to normal life. But, always look on the bright side - nary a flake of snow all Winter and we're rapidly heading into Spring ....

BTW, we've not heard from marthe. I hope all is well with her. Not very far away, Miss m and three fellow-travellers have been snow-bound in Newark NJ since Thursday evening. They have been told by their carrier it looks like they're stuck till Tuesday, so they are attempting to make alternative plans.Comment

marthe checking in from snowbound (ha ha) Newport. Winter Storm Hercules (blizzards are now named a la hurricanes) was business as usual and not a rival to the Blizzard of '78. It did get quite cold with temps in the minus Farenheit range but did not get as windy or snowy as predicted. In all, we had about 9" of powder snow but no loss of power. Today it's sunny and calm with temps at a balmy 22 F. The HH and I did a bit of shovelling yesterday so we could get out to the pub! I hope Miss M is no longer stranded in Newark, NJ!Comment

Ams and S_A, too kind! Yes, the pub was open and brekkie is more often rashers and eggs or toast and jam or porridge with fruit for me. HH is not a fan of pancakes though he does like maple syrup as long as its the real Vermont stuff. Tomorrow and Monday we're in for a thaw followed by a freeze on Tues. This means slippery roads and sidewalks or pavements. Well, it IS January. Hope all is well on your side.Comment
