Not here it isn't! It's foggy and cold here but calm.

Commiserations to any boarders who have suffered because of the bad weather this Christmas.

Very frosty and dense fog overnight and this morning which has now cleared to blue sky and sunshine. The road appears to be passable but there is still a flood warning, so taking into account the yellow warning from the Met about rain I guess it's likely to go over again in the early hours, My sister in Barnard Castle (just over the border from N. Yorks) also reports lovely sunny weather today, she also says that she baked the sprouts in the oven with bacon and chestnuts and they were the best sprouts ever and she'll never boil them again!

Very strange weather here: started out sunny, view as far as the London Eye (6 miles), but has since turned quite foggy (200 meters). Usually it's the other way around, as the sun's increasing warmth burns it off, so this lot has obviously blown in from elsewhere. Anyway, I'm risking cycling my way down to a gig on the edge of Croydon, (which sounds like the edge of infinity, and some say is). It starts at one and finishes at 3.30, so should just about make it home without lights. Nice when people think of jazzers as people who live alone at Xmas, and accordingly put something on for us loners: today it's the great saxophonist and bear of a man Don Weller, who doesn't get to do so much since having open-heart surgery December before last. I hope they put on food. There's another lunchtime gig on there on the 31st.

Having lots of trouble with this "new" (cobbled together) computer at the mo, and with my roofless "expert" spending Xmas with his estranged famerlee in Reading, nothing can be done about it crashing about every 10 minutes. Yesterday I was unable to reconnect after the third crash, even to emails; this morning I had success after switching off and on again at the mains; just thought I'd mention this in case I am forced to take any lengthy absence from the forum.

Plenty more changeable weather on the horizon - no snow as yet - but it does look like tomorrow will be the last really severe blow for some time, as it marks the last link in the chain of events triggered by the exceptionally high temperatures along the eastern seaboard in America.

Another storm last night and winds still quite high. Took MrsBBM to work, this morning and the rain suddenly came pouring down, for a couple of minutes! Never seen anything quite like it, or at least for a long time now. Quite a bit of denris on the road as well! Flooding too! Well not like yo see on tv but nonetheless!

Managed to get window permanently shut and STAY shut in the teeth of wind, and seemingly wind-tight for the mo. Not much between me and Irish Sea, so............

Loved BBC news just now: reported that the 'storm has moved further north', followed by whole series of updates from.................Kent, W Sussex. You will possibly have spotted how close these no doubt estimable places are to 'the north of England', or NorrenIrelan, or Scotland. Hmm.

Sorry to hear about all the extreme weather over on your side. We've had our share but are now enjoying cool (30s F), calm, sunny weather. This AM, the HH and I enjoyed a long ramble at a local wildlife refuge http://www.fws.gov/refuge/sachuest_point/ where we did not see the Snowy Owl but did see a hawk or two. Expecting a few more rellies this eve. Time to bring out the Christmas Cake.

got off the rock 10 days ago (about the only quiet sea day) - however here in SE floods + winds but luckily kept power - I'm hoping all ok with the Peel place tho it is rather exposed esp to SW - find out next week assuming boat sails.

My appearances here, I think, are going to be rather bitty till January 5th. What happened, was that unfortunately, a friend of mine, has come from Oz, her host, at the last minute, due to family reasons, could not put her and her son up, so myself and MrsBBM , are doing the honours.

Yesterday, from before midnight, was the worst day we’ve had here. Not because of the rain but the relentless galeforce winds making it impossible to sleep and in the morning – it was downright dangerous with the combination of wind and rain for pedestrians and motorists alike. It didn’t calm down until around 4pm.

Today looks like being mixed, it’s not yet got to 4°. Brummie Simon is predicting further unsettled weather and then around the 10th we go into a cold spell – but not the depths of Winter - and this continues until the 25th with ice, sleet and possible snow showers – which doesn’t sound too bad to me as it gets us one month closer to Spring without anything major occurring.

S_A, sorry to hear of your computer woes, perhaps you could offer a bed to your roofless computer geek in return for him applying his sonic screwdriver to your machine? (And well done to BBM for proving there was room at the Inn!)
