S_A, a few years ago my GP (and her husband) who were both heavy smokers gave up - of course she then couldn't resist pointing out her halo to all and sundry! The thing that spurred them on was a large sweet jar in which they put the money they would have spent daily. After a year it paid for a super deluxe skiing holiday - (of course, being a GP she didn't really need to save for a holiday but it does demonstrate how much money goes up in smoke)
Weather for the past few days here has been nondescript, not especially cold, just dry, cloudy and dull. Our Scottish posters look to be in for a touch of the white stuff on Thursday so had better dig out their snowshoes.
I have finalised my Christmas plans, I'll be away up North for the whole New Year week. I have no idea what strange customs they may have in Lancashire, it probably involves clogs and black peas!

It's been dry and not too cold ap nowf this last few days.

We used to have a dog with no legs,we named him Woodbine,we often took him out for a drag.

Weak sunshine and calm. Our tree is safely down but the squirrels are looking for their former home! As for Christmas in Lancashire, the menu for dinner consisted of turkey and sausage stuffing, sprouts, roast potatoes, turnips and carrots, Christmas cake, lots of sherry. Christmas crackers (the kind you pop open not the edible kind) and silly paper hats were part of the fun.

On-topic - colder than you might think out there. My journey to & from Tate Britain today was pretty perishing once I was in the open air.

The new Tate Britain is looking pretty marvellous - astoundiningly another big British building project that seems to be a success.

Must try the re-done Rex Whistler dining resto sometime

I feel for those people that are going to be hit by strong winds. Gusts of 75mph and above are reported going to happen!!

Very high winds around here today, not to mention the lashing rain. I got soaked between the house and the car.

More seriously, the Tay Road Bridge is closed, and the Friarton (Perth) and Forth Road Bridges are open to cars only.
