You wouldn't believe how many times I have censored my reply to yours, comparing you with Ron the Builder who also likes it .... the way you like it!

Yes, Rob, we are all missing saly, perhaps in a few weeks she'll be home and tapping the keys. Sorry about your asthma, horrible that is.

    Edit:

I've only been to Hull once (to visit the Uni) and had an overnight stay in the centre. I recall the best Italian meal and I really liked the place. So, really pleased they got it.

I like the cut of Ron's jib!

(I was thinking it was Ron who had the 'vast ectomy' but of course that was Duncan... - one loses track of all your journeyman callers... )

Sad for Swansea Bay though - it's very cultured - excellent Swansea Festival, Brangwyn Hall just being done up, Grand Theatre (between them I've been to many great concerts, recitals and WNO performances), excellent university, Bonnie Tyler.....these decisions highly political.

Try their web site or similar. I get them from our church's stall after mass.

Hello? You can all come out again now. The storms are over, for the time being. Except in Kent. But put a coat on. And some gloves.

Hello. What storms? I think today could be classed as unpleasant, it was around 2.6° when I went out, it slowly got to about 7° but with a very nasty NE wind it wasn't weather to hang around outside with windchill pulling the temp down at least 2 degrees, not sure, think it's probably just above 5° now. I have my hat on standby but as for my gloves - no idea where they are! Forecast however is remaining dry.

I think we should all be thinking about looking for the comet Ison soon? Will it be as good as Hale Bopp? Lovely moon last night too.

Hat on standby? Here we wear them on head, and it was required today. Baltic up here (4º C at 4.00 pm), and I was glad of my new trusty Berghaus hat and my new gloves.

I now have to go out and brave the cold, but at least it's dry.

I find gloves to be a waste of time particularly when shopping as you have to constantly take them on and off. Also the isolation of the fingers doesn't help much either. My fingers go white and dead in no time. I tend to jam my hands into the pockets of my Berghaus where they are surprisingly warm. As a novelty gift a few years ago a friend got me some battery powered heated gloves and they were really rather effective but the battery was too large and it made them heavy and cumbersome to wear.

                    Any suggestions re warm hands?

Hand warmers! Google (or your search engine of choice) for some good ideas.

Mittens are warmer than gloves, you can now buy mittens where the part covering the fingers turns back and converts into fingerless mittens so ideal for dealing with change and chip and pin. But I guess you may think they are a bit gurley or art studentish for you?

An ok day, mainly bright and blue, just under 6° now, nice stripes of thin clouds tinged with pink, frost promised.

Not bright and blue here, Anna. The bright blueness of the past few days has given way to grey skies and drizzle. Colder temps are forecast for the week end.

Nice to hear from you marthe, hope you and otherhalf are keeping well.
Goodness, when I looked out this morning I thought we had a sprinkle of snow - but it was just a very hard and glittery frost. When I went out it was still -0.4° OK, I didn't need to go out that early but, it's habit. It managed just 6.6° but although bright it has felt cold (or maybe I needed another layer)

Anyway, Mr. Stargazey from Waitrose served me today. I meant to ask him about Comet Ison but he was so interested in why I was buying a Gem Squash and how I intended to cook it that I quite forgot! And, I was going to include a link to the forthcoming event and the night skies but now I've lost the link!

Yes, glad your around again Marthe!

I think it's well time for gloves!

Just checking Marthe's forthcoming weather, and it looks like she's in for really strong gales and heavy rain once more, especially on Wednesday, after which, winter (in her terms!) comes blowing in hard from Canada.

Here by comparison it appears we are in for a coldish and rather cloudy but mainly dry week night frosts more likely the further west and daytime temps around the 6-8 C mark, which is not far from the norms.
