I know I haven't posted anything lately, but I've been trying to fulfil a commission for a piece of music and I've become rather intense because of it. Also, a number of (smallish) family concerns have arisen at quite the wrong time.
I'll be back soon. Thank you for your concern.

Sunny and remarkably warm here today - 17 degrees C reached, no record for mid-October, but with lightening winds a great opportunity to get out and about. Flu jab this morning, the doc's seen his way to extending my prescription to 2 months - they really are professional at the chemist I use - and tomorrow (if I can wake up early enough!) a visit to the local hospital where they do tests: I have to have a couple to check that the statins aren't having any adverse effect on my liver.
The warmish temperatures look likely to last into the weekend!

Back on topic, a pretty warm day here in the sunshine but a bit chilly out of it. Some rain this afternoon."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink

I'm chained to the kitchen trying to peel, cut-up and cook all the apples that decided to drop in the last few days
When I remember the pies, crumbles and apple sauce I used to prepare.Oh dear my mum would be shocked to see that I've bought ready made topping.
Sorry, more for the food thread. Anyway, seems a nice day outside.
MY chutney, all ingredients home grown except vinegar, of course.

Swiftly back ontopic, we were 18° yesterday and just under that today. One morning my new central heating clicked on, around 6am, so it shows it's working. I've turned the thermostat down now as I've had my letter from SSE about price going up 8.2%, not as bad as British Gas price rise though! What an own goal their Twitter Q&A re price rise turned out to be!
Finally got a start date for windows/door works after a months delay, now scheduled for October 28th - weather permitting - so draught-proof back door and double glazing should impact slightly on heating bills (but I'll still prefer to layer up when at home and deny the fat cats their bonuses!)

I left work at 4.30 today (two weeks' training down, one to go) and it was a grey, dark, dank, and damp evening.
As Anna points out, these price increases are deplorable. Living as I do in an SSE area, their electric prices are dearest here, so I am with Scottish (ie British) Gas, even although I don't have gas. Fortunately I am on a prix fixe contract, until Feb 2014.
All the suppliers will have put their prices up by then, so at that point I shall look closely at all the tariffs on offer. I strongly recommend that all boarders do the same, as the best we can do in this deplorable cartel situation is to go for the cheapest option. There are some very good comparison sites online, but examine at least two.
Here endeth the lesson.

I cannot at the mo look to change, having just had an A rated gas boiler installed in place of a 30 year old Zero rated one, so, as I don't know how many therms I may be consuming - at least until the Winter is out - I don't think a fixed price is the way as this new system may be deap cheap and a fixed price not. My annual energy bills (gas & elec) were, historically, around £750 a year I think before the old boiler packed in. I sure know my income has not risen by 8.2% pa.!!!
