Further off topic, my sister has departed on holiday - to Sebastapol. I imagine a fascinating place.

There have been some excellent programmes featuring the line to Mallaig. One especially worthy of note is "West Highland", made by the BBC in 1960, and directed and produced by John Gray. I have it on a DVD (scroll down) with that other classic "Night Mail".

I have done the journey to Mallaig quite a few times - it's a great day out. As Anna said, there's that viaduct at Glenfinnan. I don't know about "most isolated", but there are certainly some good pubs in Mallaig, bbm, and there's also a fish and chip shop (almost) on a par with that one in Anstruther. When you get to Mallaig on the steam train, there's plenty of time for a look at the harbour (prawns, and the Skye ferry in the summer), a pint, and fish and chips.

Edit: Bbm, the penny has dropped. I think you're referring to the Old Forge at Inverie on the Knoydart peninsula. It is only 7 miles from Mallaig - by ferry. Otherwise it's a very long walk. I have never been, but Miss m was there a few years ago while on a yachting trip with some colleagues, and a Fine Time was had by all.

Cold on the first morning of September, but the glass is high and it's warming up beautifully here.

No need to shift the tender plants yet, I hope.

If anyone wishes to travel the line behind steam, you should know that the train is always full, and you will need to book in advance.

The "maybe" and question-mark would appear to be superfluous, Bbm...

Superb late summer weather here. Long may it continue...

Are we supposed to be surprised at that?
This morning at 6.30am it was 5.3° (!) and the day took a long time to warm up, reaching just 21°, a spectacular sunset however, all red and golds.
The Old Forge at Inverie, reading their webpage, seems to be a lively spot. Nice photo you took of the viaduct mangerton!

This morning heating switched on. Set at about 17c-put it off, didn't seem that cold

Lots of apples down. Wish I was in pie/crumble making mood. Asked someone if they wanted any. Answer "If we want a Bramley pie, we buy one."

Anna will be shocked at that. I too loved cooking when I was younger.

Let's hope King Alfred the Great won't be there! :)

I'm picturing Mrs Bbm as Marie Antoinette!
