Great to have you back ER.

Good news is that music continues as ever, and war with syria postponed at least for a while.

Really cold breeze here but nice sun atm. I needed a light cardi but the majority of women [and some men] seem to be dressed for the beach.

Must try to catch up todaywith proms and unplayed CDs. I have three or four from the BBCMM
                  for starters.

                  Any recommendations welcome?

Beautiful sunny day here, not a cloud in the sky, breeze a bit chill this morning but amazing clarity, every field and tree on the hill picked out in sharp detail. The 10 day forecast also looking good with termps increasing. Hope Pet's weekend in London will also have the sun and a big welcome back to Rob, he has been missed.
(I returned from market with fresh Turkish figs - 5 for £1 - thought I might bake them with honey and orange zest unless anyone has alternative ideas; some Reine Claude greengages and William pears)

Pretty clear atmosphere here too - rather remarkable, given the amount of pollution that inevitably builds up rapidly under a high pressure inversion (ceiling) - and likewise not a cloud to be seen since 9 am. Just touching 18 C - 4 C down on yesterday with a gentle to moderate NW breeze - a pleasantly refreshing foretaste of late September.

Assuming a maximum of 19 C for today, that means this month's temperatures have been 1.7 degrees C above the August means - that's both maxima and minima: pretty rare for both readings to accord in that way. And so, looking back on the 3 summer months, my own readings are as follows:

                      June
                      Max: 18.9 C - 0.1 C below normal
                      Min: 10.8 C - 1.8 C above normal

                      July
                      Max: 24.4 C - 2.4 C above normal
                      Min: 14.9 C - 2.9 C above normal

                      Aug
                      Max: 22.3 C - 1.7 C above normal
                      Min: 13.7 C - 1.7 C above normal

This is as compared with 2012 figures:

                      June
                      Max: 17.9 C - 1.1 C below normal
                      Min: 10.5 C - 1.5 C above normal

                      July
                      Max: 19.6 C - 2 C below normal
                      Min: 12 C - normal

                      August
                      Max: 21.7 C - normal
                      Min: 13.4 C - 1.4 C above normal

I'm afraid I don't keep rainfall amounts records.

Thanks S_A, that's an interesting comparison but your max temp for July seems a bit low? I think we're all grateful to have had some warmth this summer enablng bare legs and arms and no socks! The barometer has been steadily climbing and is 1028 so that confirms a continuing dry spell. The only downside are the increasingly darker evenings. Clouded over here (edit: now cleared and lovely sun again) and nighttime temp promised to be only about 8° but that's ok, (the hot summer nights were really uncomfortable) I haven't looked at Brummie Simon lately but someone this morning said this weather will continue until October?

Still dry here, after yesterday's dark skies. Sunny, bright, but very windy - a lot of movement in the trees across the road. Temp in the mid teens.

I saw a lovely programme two days ago, the Fort William to Mallaig steam train, what beautiful scenery - and that viaduct - (the film was made in the 80s, I see the steam trains are still going on it Monday to Friday) Sorry, totally off topic, should be on another thread.
Further off topic, my sister has departed on holiday - to Sebastapol. I imagine a fascinating place.

I saw that first time around. there's a pub in Mallaig, which is reputedly to be the UK's most isolated pub!! I want to go there!!! It looks very nice and tempting too!! :)

Anna, I've just checked the Weatherweb site, and Brummie Simon's predicting dry, warm weather until Thursday this coming week, followed by cooler, more changeable weather lasting until around the 23rd, with it possibly quite cold and wet between the 19th and the 23rd, and then warmer, with S-SE winds until the end of the month making it dry across the east, though naturally the further away one gets, the more conjectural forecasts will become.

I've double-checked my August readings and they seem to be OK; remember, we're comparatively high up here, so our temperatures are usually 2-4 C below those registering in central London.
