I'm afraid I can't compete with the last posts about possibly dodgy uncles and pretending to be Shirley Bassey (I was a very shy child and would prefer to hide behind the sofa rather than be the the centre of attention - nothing much has changed, always the shrinking violet!)

Comment? No, I just imagined the net curtains twitching violently as you pretended not to look - three times!

On topic, got very hot finally yesterday at just under 24°, I was out in the countryside, today around 22° but very heavy. I hope the dry spell will continue, need some more sunshine to ripen up tomatoes, still picking beans by the bushel.
I am a little concerned for Petrushka, who said he was expecting it to still be hot when he comes down to London this weekend. The forecast is much cooler from Saturday onwards, albeit still dry (after some rain expected Friday night).

Another dry day here, and warm and sunny with it. Rain has been forecast overnight, which is not such good news.

That's a shame. I take it she was on the plain - or the plane.

The weekend forecast seems to change by the hour if not by the minute. Looked at the BBC Weather site last thing last night and they were forecasting sunny and hot, temps in the mid 20s C. Now they say something somewhat different. Really, is there any point in providing these forecasts in the first place? They simply don't know do they?

Yes, as mentioned before, I'm treating my sister and niece to an all expenses paid London weekend and, not unnaturally, bearing in mind the exorbitant cost of doing this the weather forecast for this Saturday and Sunday makes a major difference. The drier and warmer the better. Rain isn't wanted.

A lovely day today. At work, getting ready for the kids when they come back! Grr!

                  When to the schools start?

I like children but the young grandson staying next door has a VERY squeaky bike or trolley which he pushes up and down all day. [bless him ] Think he goes to nursery school.

OT, Sunny but acool breeze here today.

Come and live up here, sal, they've been back for two weeks!

On the other hand, of course, they broke up that much earlier - in early July!

The best that could be said about this week's weather (apart from bank holiday monday afternoon) is that it hasn't rained, there have been very few sunny spells (the opposite to what has been forecast) and today especially a rather chill breeze developed. I must sort out and wash fleeces at the weekend in preparation for colder weather developing I suppose .....
Where I grew up we had a very squeaky metal gate, it was never oiled as it was a useful warning that someone was coming to the front door!

I still have one - it is rather reassuring

OT: perfect week of weather here, sunny, not to hot, not too cool

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I received a lengthy questionnaire from Kings College Hospital today, relating to my recent heart op, asking lots of penetrating questions as to my feelings about being prone to heart problems, as well as more general questions, such as do I think heart attack victims should exercise as before, exercise more or lead an easy life. Unfortunately it is not that easy to say whether or not one is more given to feelings of gloom that previously, as I'm not sure whether my growing pessimism is as a consequence of health problems or having the same grounds for gloom as most other people I know! The questionnaire came with a covering letter, explaining that the point of the exercise is for the heart aftercare team to use the results to justify funding their continuation to their managers! It's good to know someone is looking out for one, but maybe I should have read that before starting on it!
