Stormy Weather

All this week, the local weather forecast has been saying that it was going to rain. It hasn't, and we have had a few lovely days. How can they get it so wrong?

I am in the Great Glen, BBM - 16 miles south-west of Inverness.

Rain eased off around dusk and a lovely effect of mist hanging low over town and river and hills standing out against the sky. Tipped it down again just after midnight for a few hours, this morning grey, 18°, some holes appearing in clouds to reveal blue sky and sun occasionally breaking through them now. Still seems as if Wales & The West will get the better weather today and tomorrow but for all of us a pretty decent bank holiday. Anyone doing anything special?

Everything here pretty sodden, no hope of grass cutting until Monday. (Got a lovely compliment this morning, just set off into town and car stopped, window opened and she said how lovely my tubs of flowers were at the front. Little things like that can really lift the spirits!)

Well, not quite as bad here today as I'd anticipated, nevertheless the first proper wet day in London since June 28th.

It's been pouring here for about 36 hours and very autumnal. I've put the central heating on for a while - depressing for people off for the long weekend holiday.

My return to the UK seems to have coincided with the beginning of autumn (I won't say Fall) weather.

Cloudy but dry here just now, and the temperature much cooler than the muggy Mid-West.

On the whole, i prefer this.

Well, not quite as bad here today as I'd anticipated, nevertheless the first proper wet day in London since June 28th.

That's quite amazing, but you mean continuous all day rather than a series of downpours I presume. Yesterday's clearing skies unfortunately soon clouded up again, today is dull, grey and really quite chilly early on, enough to close all the windows, just creeping up to 18° now that the wind has eased. I am hopeful that tomorrow's bank holiday will be better (?) but we do seem to be sliding into autumn, the evenings are now starting at 8pm, however on a positive note, I've never seen such a good crop of blackberries rapidly ripening .... and with a bumper apple crop predicted I predict some tarts appearing on the horizon! Well, more likely some sort of stewed combo here topped with Greek yoghurt or added to cereal.
(Cooking a late lunch for a friend, who phoned to say they are running late, no probs, I was late putting it the oven So, that's a relief!)

The good news is that the weather is looking very promising indeed for my planned London weekend treat for my sister and niece on August 31/Sept 1. When I last looked the BBC forecast was dry and warm with temperatures around the mid-20s C. This would be a stroke of good fortune if it comes off.

Yesterday [Saturday] was dull and overcast for the Glenurquhart Highland Games, but we all had a good time - plenty of caber-tossing and hammer-throwing.

Today is much better in the Great Glen - quite a bit of sun with the occasional cloudy period.
