Anyway, we had one shower here today, but otherwise it's been not too bad. Sorry to hear about Anna's troubles with the wind. I hope things have now calmed down.

My memory of him goes something like ... "You're a shaaaar - an eb-sol-oot shaaaar" ... but I could be wrong

Ammy is right, an internet search reveals Terry Thomas coined the phrase You're a shower, an absolute shower' in the 1956 Boulting Brothers' film Privates Progress. (Incidentally, I hadn't realised they were also responsible for Brighton Rock, one of my favourite films)

All is calm here on the bean tub tumbling front, they are securely anchored now, and I picked and cooked my first harvest yesterday - absolutely yummy! Rain started here in the early hours, forecast was for it to be torrential all day so I set forth first thing in proper sensible shoes instead of flimsy flim-flams and they felt heavy as divers' boots! Also donned the Berghaus (but it is a lightweight Gore-Tex) and now - no rain and a watery sun. I sometimes think it's best not to have too much faith in weather forecasts. However, our local BBC weatherman promised 'It's tropical tomorrow, really tropical'

Well, went to a 'Wake', yesterday, of an ex-colleague of mine, when I was in nursing. Quite sad really, same age as me, etc. Although, it's always good seeing my former colleagues that come as well. Rather a wert day tro, unfortunately.

like today, really, and much similar. (Back been playing up as well!).

I hope you all enjoy it.

It's coming down in bucketloads here.

Well, it was Tropical - but distinctly unpleasant as the humidity was so high and we got to just over 29°. Today is fresher at just over 24° and once again the forecast was wrong and we did not get the promised rain.

I'm quite giddy with excitement at accepting a quote for new central heating system (I really dislike spending large sums of money but this is essential if I'm to remain warm during the coming Winter) and work commences on August 14th when The Gasmen Cometh!! I'm sure they will be lovely but I'll have to be on hand to make endless cuppas .... and it could take three days of disruption with no electrics or water. Just as well I hadn't booked a holidlay this year as this will cost the proverbial ..... and when the Engineer said it's wireless technology, oh yes I replied, do you know you cannot get a 3G signal here let alone G4, shall I have to go into the garden to operate it?
(but he was from Gloucester! actually I think I succumbed to his navy blue eyes fringed with such long lashes!)

That made me laugh...! What was his answer about having to go into the garden with the remote in mid winter... (Presumably the wireless aspect has nothing to do with 3G or 4G...!)

You're in a right two-and-eight Anna! Good luck with that, and watch young blue-eyes!! You know what they say about blokes from Gloucester!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Oh No, he said, it's not that Internet wireless, it's proper wireless!, the boiler merely speaks to the thermostat and you can move it about!
Anyway, all the old ugly pipework around the ancient boiler is going to disappear upwards under the floorboards and I shall be left with ...... a huge space! My sister suggests I install a bistro table and two chairs pour des occasions intimes dans la cuisine

Currently having a terrific thunderstorm. Lightening flashes every two or three seconds, black as Hades and enough rain to top up the Atlantic.

Sorry to have been away without the chance to inform everyone. Had a mild heart attack 3 or so weeks ago, it was reckoned - a week's tests interned at Kings Coll Hospital in Camberwell, concluding with a stent inserted in one of the artery valves under the heart yesterday afternoon - done under local anaesthetic! Was released this morn. Seven drugs per day regime from now - seems like the first day of the rest of my life - have to wonder if I'll ever do those long cycle rides again.

Lovely thunderstorm has broken out unexpectedly here in past 5 minutes.

Crikey S_A !! V sorry to hear that! Scary, but great to have you back - go very carefully but hope you don't have to sell the bike! Take it easy and get strong.

OT: pissing it down here too!
