Same here Anna, the "June drop" (which normally happens in early July) didn't happen at all this year on our tree which is practically devoid of apples.

Golden-ringed dragonfly in the garden today. Two days ago, a goshawk flew over, quite high. Garden bird list stands at 79 (being near the coast helps).

Calling S_A. They have just announced on R4 that next week will be hotter still. Tell me that's not true please.

Well, saly, the official BBC weather website has our local temperature going back up to 28 C on Monday and 27 C on Tuesday, following a much cooler weekend during which I intend opening all my windows to cool my flat's interior for as long as possible. If "Brummie Simon" is to be believed, next Thursday will mark the end of the heatwave with a bang, after which there will be a return to cooler, i.e. normal temperatures for late July, about what are expected tomorrow.

Well, we have temps over 30C's next week with rain as well, so most likely to be rather humid as well.

Exactly Edge, but to hear the 10pm News it's a crisis!

That's what we are due here, rain from Monday onwards, Wednesday and Thursday still showery and 30°, luckily tomorrow and Sunday will only be 25°and 26° Porthmadog was the hottest place in the UK today at 31° Not sure why Wales, Scotland and N.Ireland don't have heatwave warnings, Wales this week has certainly filled the criteria.
Rob, tell Harry the RSPCA have forbidden him for going on walks between 11am and 3pm and all walks must be shorter, if he feels very hot during the day he must have a dogfood lolly.

The BBC has been out where I live - underestimating the temperature up here by 3-4 degrees a day - yesterday they said 27 degrees my garden thermometer hidden away in the dark said 30 ! as did www.weather.com.

Cooler weather expected and it has clouded over and the wind got up tonight and there is a nice breeze should be easier to sleep !

Just remember those January and March days of heavy snow and how we longed for sunshine then. It can carry on like this as long as it likes!

Perfect again this morning. I love filling my watring-can and trotting outside with it before breakfast.

is it better to water in the morning or the evening ?

Traditionally, morning is the time to water - before the sun gets on the plants. Evening watering often results in plant roots sitting in cold wet soil. However, with these high temperatures and the fact that overnight it's still between 15-20C then that doesn't apply so water in the morning and evening. (I'm talking about containers, bedding and vegs, shrubs or perenniels (unless newly planted) I don't bother watering)

It's a good year for my blue clematis, climbing a drainpipe almost up to the guttering. It has been there for about 40 years and hasn't flowered like this for ages.
