Four feet of snow? No kidding?

Here in Dundee today we've had quite a lot of snow and - surprisingly - hail. Or as it's called in Latin, "Ave".

We've also had intermittent thunder and lightning which started at 3.00 am. Like the Spanish Inquisition, it was not expected. Has anyone here come across these weather conditions?
Thanks. In fact it was just a quarter of an inch of frost, but its very cold, barely above freezing point, if that. I think there is snow not far north of London. This weather is most depressing. And we have tube strkes tonight and tomorrow, when we are supposed to go to the QEH for a Julia Fischer recital. No thunder and lightning yet.

I'm just about to try and play for a bit, and see how things feel.

I'm playing a bit today and the Asprin seems to have almost worked, only a pain in bowing hand now. Maybe alcohol and other things might work too ...? (It always sounds better when you've had a few ...)

I'm a great believer in alcohol as a panacea. Definitely worth a try.

I had problems with my left hand thumb, near three years ago. I was concerned that resting it might cause it to seize up, but using it might disable me permanently. I was very careful and found a good physiotherapist. It was over two years before I felt I could play for longer periods, and it was very worrying. I hope you make a full recovery too.

Very bad snow in Harrogate last night. Frau Alpensinfonie was there, travelling by minibus. Normally a 2 hour journey, it took 7 hours to get home.

I ain't got two years left!! Thanks for all the sympathetic comments from everyone, and its a lot better today, and I did about an hour yesterday in 15 minute bursts.

It's got to be OK as I've just committed myself to a concert in February, and although the music is not that long and difficult, it often ends up harder than one thought.

Good luck with that Cellini... Hope things ease up. This F*@+*ng cold can't help.

Did you say you had loads of snow in North London??

Weird? Here in the centre of London, there's been nothing but blue skies (the odd cloud today) albeit with freezing temperatures... Seems surreal to watch the news and see snow everywhere....
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                  Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

No, I was only joking about the 4 feet of snow!!

But today we have tube strikes and what with one thing and another we are going to have to miss the Julia Fischer recital at the QEH tonight. Pity as we bought tickets months ago.

Yes E_A I was stuck in much the same as your good Lady. I was on the A1(M) north of Wetherby and it was gridlock without a snow plough in sight. I came off and came through the very "up market" village of Scarcroft and saw 2 snow ploughs operating with gusto!! Why would that be??

Sitting bored in a hotel I have checked the BBC Weather website and for Tuesday HEAVY SNOW is forecast for Chislehurst tomorrow. As all they ever forecast for us was "Light Snow Showers" I really fear for salymap!!

Morning all Stormyweatherites. I have written a long post on the old site. Thank you anton for above, yes it is settling and snowing hard. I shall not attempt to go out as, some years ago, I gave all my high boots, hardly worn, to various cousins as I could pull them on but not take them off. I have hopes of a visit tomorrow from local cousin so must geton with overseas cards today, which I hope they willpost for me. Forgoodness sake, what's going to disappear next?
Post Office, lots of local shops, MBs.
I hope you are allwell and have plenty of food, etc. Lovefrom saly

Lots of snow here in Amsterdam today
thought I might not make it as everything was very slow at the airport
but plenty of lovely live electronics and circuit bending to look forward to this week

                                :-)
