Seems to be that, of course their Civil War was rather more major than ours which I don't think ever had any commemorations (and which few remember/know of)
I'm so glad S_A has been ambling through the woods in short sleeves admiring the bluebells in 16° (and probably eating an ice cream), it's just 9.7° here, spitty rain, very windy and not weather for going out in!

Well, I know which side i wouldve been on in our civil war(if you mean Lancs and Yorks) but there again with the Parlimentarians I would have been a Royalist. With the Lancs and Yorks, i would have been a Lancs. (For obvious reasons, I think!! :))

The Cavaliers were of course Wrong but Wromantic, and the Roundheads Right but Repulsive. As 1066 And All That points out,

The Roundheads, on the other hand, were clean-shaven and wore tall conical hats, white ties and sombre garments. Under these circumstances a Civil War was inevitable.

One of John of Gaunt's sons killed a nolbleman, and (hmmm forget which monarch was on the throne), stripped him of his titles and expelled him from his lands and he moved down to East Anglia area, where his descendants stayed for quite a long time( 200 or 300 years), then moved down to Kent.
