....golden-lighted evening with swallows charging and banking catching the light....

....surfeit of dirty nicotined fingers hereabouts, such a lovely bright amber colour in the evening light....midges swerve around me, making towards some newly bathed teenager; off for a night out....

I really like "girding up our meteorological loins" (going back a page or two).

I no longer eat meat, but will ask for some next time I'm in the butcher's.

This afternoon is much better than this morning when we still had a chilly, stiff breeze. However that's dropped and it's 15° at the moment. I've been working in the garden, discovered two lovely big purple aquilegias which I didn't know were there, the apple blossom smells quite strong, ditto the Mexican orange blossom, a lovely Robin kept me company for a lot of the time watching for any unearthed grubs/insects. I've been having a break, listening to the cricket (not terribly exciting though but the chat is fun, as usual) My back tells me I've done enough and common sense agrees with it! Plenty of time tomorrow for a final push (and Monday if it's not raining)

Who is this lovely Robin you just slipped in hoping he'd go unnoticed, Anna Poor Mangerton and Caliban, their hopes cast aside like a pair of last season's gardening gloves

I thought that April was the cruellest month but at this rate, May is pretty down & dirty too

May is being cruel over here as well. Another day of weather for ducks with showers and cool temps. It's the holiday weekend too. The beaches are open for the season now but I don't expect there were many beachgoers out there today.
