More like a hurricane here. A sortof stiff ribbon has detached itself partly from the guttering. I expect it will cost quite alot when I can getit done, by neighbour possibly.

Thanks to your post Bbm I decided to don a warmer coat for the cycle ride this morning, and I'm very glad I did... a chill SW blustery gale would have been annoying otherwise.

The BBC weather site seems utterly unaware of the fact that it is currently pouring with rain - it's showing white cloud with sun for central London. I hope the dirty great black cloud plus raindrops they are showing for going-home time is equally wrong and that the rain is blowing though earlier than expected....

The main part of this evening's rain belt will be to the north of here, Cali - more like light intermittent stuff expected here, but we are still expecting those very strong winds: my thoughts will be with you, battling your way along Oxford St amid the hurly-burly of everyday late shopping folk!

I always forget that they'll be there on a Thursday ... but I only go along for two blocks then it's north into Newman St and then west along Eastcastle and thence to Wigmore... relative oases of calm

So far it's not been as bad as it was forecast. This morning bright, windy, cold. Rain set in around lunchtime, hills have disappeared in the rain and mist, strong winds but not gusting above 40mph at present, cool at 9° Not weather for biking nor for venturing forth this evening, on BBC4 tonight they are showing The History Boys (Richard Griffiths) so that'll be my viewing, curled up warm and safe indoors!

By coincidence I warned our window cleaners about today's high winds, but they said they'd be OK as they're no longer allowed to use long ladders (elf 'n' safety) but use long handles instead. I surreptitiously watched their long distance mops flailing around in the breeze before managing to reach the upstairs windows!

4 hours on the boat back to IoM - not the worst crossing by any means but not that pleasant - apparently the morning crossing against the SE strong wind was quite unpleasant - however once away from the lee of the coast couldn't work or read comfortably so curled on on the seat - in a force 8 or worse I'm usually on the floor alongside the seat after ensuring there is nothing on the table to come crashing down.

With the summer solstice about 40 days away, trees not yet in full leaf, howling gales, and sheeting rains to say nothing of ever-grey skies, what chance now of any real summer?

Unanswerable I know, but somewhere they're having fun - and it is not in Liverpool.
