Morning Grandad and others. Still very cold here but intend to do useful jobs indoors and keep moving. However I find this wretched machine very addictive. Just a little look around and another hour has gone.

Keep warm, might play Ma Vlast, no I haven't got around to it yet Anton.

Morning all. If this is really the place to talk about anything, TENNIS {Australian Open Final] is on BBC1 right now, with Andy Murray and Djokovic fighting it out.

After all other sports are often mentioned..........

Morning salymap .................I feel we can talk about anything - the problem is it's not going so well for "our boy". But then I suppose it isn't over until whoever sings!

the Fat Lady is the expression you're looking for Anton. I'm afraid she is about to. I thought Murray looked defeated from the start. If only it could be forgotten that no male British tennis player has won a major tournament since about 1937.It sort of sits there, staring them in the face, I feel.

Morning all. A little old voice trying to keep SW going. Perhaps it's time to move on? Anton seems the only one left.

Cold and dampish but the days are getting longer and spring is round the corner.

Yes I'm still here but perhaps we rest until the first sign of spring is spotted in Sidcup High Street or a British tennis player wins something!

morning salymap .... the thermometer not that low these last few days but it felt brutish to me ....middle kingdom does not look so depressingly grey this morning ... bluish sky with real sunshine not some pale glow, my spirits do not really rise until the blossoms are out ...

                  Hello salymap!

Weather here in NW2 seems to have got stuck. I agree abiout the lengthening of the days, which is most welcome. I was taken to Kew Gardens last week by a friend who gets me in free (yay!) and it was a riot of snowdrops - I had no idea that there were so many varieties. I'm hoping to go again next week when their annual orchid display is on.

Hello Am 51 I'm very proud of myself because I got to the supermarket, [now half an hour each way], and did a good shop. I used to visit friends in Richmond and we often went to Kew Gardens. When I stayed with friends in Guildford, we visited the other RHS Garden near them, is it Wisley? Both well worth a visit.
                    best wishes from saly

Brava, salymap - it's nice to be able to get a good shop done sometimes isn't it. I could never understand why my mother always had a huge range of tins & packets 'in reserve' but now that I find the prospect of going shopping less easy, I begin to understand.

Sunshine at last here, which is very welcome, not least because my mood lifts immediately. Sometimes I think that my brain is little more advanced than some small plant - show me a some sunshine & my petals open lol

Did you get yourself any treats, like chocolate biscuits or some nice cooked meat for a lunchtime sandwich? These days these are the things that set my day off well.

I've always said that my one saving grace is that I am terrifically easily pleased - which is probably just as well

Hello stormyweatherites: my snowdrops are under a foot of snow and probably won't be up until mid-March this year! We've got hundreds under our trees, both single-flowered and doubles. Am51, how wonderful to be able to go to Kew gardens...one of my dreams. Today it's nice and sunny but more snow/wintery mix is in the forecast for mid-week. So it's off to the shops (supermarket) to buy supplies. I'll be on foot, so I can't get anything too bulky or heavy. Saly, my walk is also about a half hour each way. This is how I get my exercise. No need for going to a gym to work out!

Morning marthe and am51, 4.19 am and here is a fully fledged insomniac giving way to it. I doubt techies read this thread, if they do,what do I do about a computer that constantly tells me that updates, downloads etc have failed, but they cannot tell me why and say 'get advice'. What, call in an 'expert' at great expense, when the few things I want to do are working quite well?

                            Hi salymap et al,

Just awakened by a phone call from a friend who flew to Saint Louis for a family member's funeral, a sudden unexpected death, yet a death I certainly hope for... while sleeping, and they have to cancel the Mass for today since a blizzard is fast approaching. Absolutely unbelievable the snow and ice here in the UK and North America.

I haven't been listening to music at all, nor really following it, for I seem to need rest and silence. As for the world news, I try and stay moderate for now. Otherwise; I do spot read here, now and then. I'll rejoin you all when I am more robust.

                            warm wishes,
                            sigolene

                              Morning Sal!

Here's a thought--what if you called your internet service provider's customer service line? They might be able to walk you through a few steps toward a solution for free. Who knows, couldn't hurt...just make sure you've got a book or magazine handy to avoid getting mad at the interminable wait once they put you on hold. That's how it works in the States, anyway.

There's supposed to be a big ice storm coming in tonight...wish me luck!

                              Cheers, ~E.

Morning salymap and the blizzard folks.
Salymap if your computer is doing what you want I would just leave it be - I've had a ton of messages like that before and they just seem to sort themselves at some point. No blizzards here not even a breath of the wind we are promised.
