I like a drop of Scotch, but feel it would be difficult to cope with atm.

Saly, I recommend Irish....the recipe for hot whisky from the Bushmills Distillery is (or at least used to be) a generous measure of the amber liquid, teasp of demerara, 5 cloves and a pinch of cinnamon, topped up with hot water. If you ask for a hot whisky in an Irish pub you are likely to get a slice of lemon with cloves pushed into it rather than the cloves and cinnamon, but lemon frowned upon at Bushmills and the cinnamon unbeatable as a cold remedy.

Yesterday we were not as hot as other places (I believe somewhere in West Wales took the honours at over 17°) but it got to 13.2°, would have been higher but remained rather hazy all day. However, the street lights are not coming on until 6.15pm, the daffs are all out plus loads of blossom, the bluetits are building a nest and on balance, it hasn't been an awful Winter like 2011/2012 was with constant snow and the lowest ever temperature recorded here and I think that Winter was the most miserable, and coldest, experience I've had. So, onwards and upwards! Things can only get better ..

Afraid so, BBM - Maximum temperature of 0 degrees C predicted on Monday for London, with a strong NE wind to acentuate the chill factor. I shall either need to buy a new coat, since my old and very effective winter coat (made in Canada) finally gave out on Tuesday, or stay indoors for a few days!
