Problems never come in singles, as I messaged saly earlier to say. Its on days like Sunday that you realise not for the first time the indispensability of mobile phones - I had to depend on the neighbours' to leave a message for BT to attend. Fortunately he chanced it this afternoon - given that his area covers from Putney to Esher via here - and found me in: it was the first day I've felt well enough to go out! So thanks, to saly especially, and for all your concerns, everybody. It's taken me a while catching up with all the interims, going bottom to top.

I hope saly's and others' neighbours in similar lockdown situations will at least do the shopping honours when the snow comes on Saturday, as seems 60 % probable south of a line from London to Aberystwyth, then more widely. Of my two trustiest belongings, my bike and a heavy, ankles-length greatcoat I picked up from an army surplice shop back in the hippy 70s for 12 quid, only the bike remains - the coat, intended to outlive me, having been attacked by clothes moths this summer!

my uncle who was a General Foreman on an open cast coal mine [the very heaven itself for a seven yr old boy driving cranes and bulldozers, spending days alongside the gang and eating meals and bantering with them in broad Geordie] gave me when i was twelve a navy blue donkey jacket that i wore every day i cold possibly wear it from then until i left university .... it is now about the right size alas but worn threadbare, but for many years it was the hippest kind of coat to have and wear ...great seated ranks of non conformist students in donkey jackets and jeans in the 60s

No message from S_A and the promise of snow. Am panicking about the weather as I rashly got rid of winter coats and boots some time ago. However little jackets not enough in snow and local cozes are ill.Ah well, porridge for everymeal is very healthy

Good luck to Mahlerei who has pre eye-op check today. I hopethey do the op soon and it goes well, my friend.

There are conflicting predictions as to the snow here tomorrow, the latest I have seen is that London will be harder hit than my part of Wales which seems to be rain/sleet rather than lying snow. What is more worrying is the forecast for Monday when everyone has to get to work, commute = transport chaos plus the outlook for the rest of next week. On the subject of winter coats, I mentioned my recent purchase of a fleece lined duffel and woolly hat, it has now been joined by a Sarah Lund type design (snowflakes) ultra-warm woolly scarf. I am prepared

Well the lunchtime prediction was for mostly light rain for here tomorrow, maybe turning sleety later. he main snow band is expected to come down from the NW on Monday evening. It should clear your area, Anna, then get stuck over the Home Counties on Monday night, fortunately as a weakening system by that stage, but we'll still be on the continental arctic air side of it here, which will seep over the rest of the country from Tuesday onwards.
