Er... according to the weather man this lunchtime, it was supposed to brighten up this afternoon. Too late now - no way; if it brightens up, it can only happen when it gets dark!

Had to fly up to Northamptonshire - stonking headwind and interesting cross-wind landing!

And may I inquire Pianorak, just what is stonking ? Have you ever landed on a strip of earth where the runway lights are made up of pick-up trucks' high beam head lamps ????

Nice plane; have you named her ?

Thanks, siggy. No, she's just known by her registration letters. Let's say a 35 kt wind gusting to 40 kt could be called "stonking", UK slang in this context for "very strong". Have heard about truck headlights used to light runways in an emergency - but not experienced it myself thank god!

So .. .. urban slang, eh ? I am always two weeks behind ! In New Mexico on the reservations it is the norm.

Is your plane a Piper Cherokee? Bit too small to tell from the avatar. My uncle had one back in the 1970s and as a younster I always enjoyed flying with him. I even remember the registration - 5Y AKZ (Alpha Kilo Zulu). Happy days.

It's a Piper Arrow III (part of the Cherokee family). 5Y - Happy days in Kenya?

Yes indeed. The plane was based at Nairobi Wilson. Flew mainly to a dirt strip in the Tsavo - dive bombing first to frighten away loitering cattle - and to Mnarani on the coast. I must confess to being a bit of an aviation nut (but please don't tell anyone). :)

Well, she was still flying in 2006; her C of A expired on 13/03/2006 and apparently hasn't been renewed. Good innings though!

Interesting. It was already a few years old back then, so it must have been airworthy for 30 years at least.

I'm out of my league here. Ponies, yachts, planes. I have a very superior four-wheel shopping trolley

                            Have a good day!

But you have had a Masterclass on which Sibelius is Sibelius! Better than a 'plane I would suggest!

Hello anton dear, I though you had gone on your travels again. Ihope KCll is still around and has noted that Sibelius is the next Composer of the week. And on Friday it says, 'Ending with a vintage performance of the finale from Sibelius's great 5th symphony, recorded by MS and the BBCSO just months after the composer's death.' I just wish they were playing it ALL. Lots of people, including Hornspieler, thought he was a very good Sibelian. So there. saly
