Glenmorangie

I had a right royal Yuletide result - on the 25th we adjourned for lunch to my aunt's. Sadly, she lost her husband this year... and subsequently discovered that he had been hoarding high quality booze in the attic... Not drinking it, just keeping bottles that relatives had brought duty-free. She doesn't drink so I was given free range to select what I wanted to bring home. I emerged staggering under the weight of a litre of Glenmorangie , a litre of The Glenlivet, a litre of Chartreuse Verte, and 75cl of Triple Sec orange liqueur.

Well set up for Burns night and beyond... ... with several glasses to raise heavenwards to thank my late uncle...

I should plainly have made it clear that the said alcohols were each still in their sealed bottles, not inside me!

Especially as we were driving home afterwards and I was at the wheel. A dry Christmas day of self-denial for Cali! No change there! (Well, at least until we got back home )

I've just logged in and have been reduced to a fit of the giggles having seen that Caliban went to a party dressed as Scott Tracy!! I fear that image will stay with me all day .......

I'll be using up leftovers today but I only have one potato so it will have to be mashed carrot and parsnip combined with it. I've just noticed that Downton Abbey is repeated at 4.30 today so as I didn't see it and it's evidently caused a stir I'll watch. Ontopic, it rained in the night but is quite nice and reasonably sunny and bright at the moment. Is everyone back at work today?

Got dark as pitch around 9.30 here and torrential rain ensued, with wind. It's calmed down now, just drizzle and on-and-off rain...

I didn't watch Downton Abbey, but I have it on good authority that............ no, I'll let you find out. I intend to catch up with Dr Who this evening. I was fortunate enough to get leave this year, so back to work for me next Wed, although the 2nd is a public holiday in Scotland. The drawback (or possibly advantage) of not catering at home is that one has no leftovers, so I shall raid the freezer this evening.

Dry and overcast here, but with the temp hovering around 2-3° C, it's quite cold.

After a wet windy night - it is bright and breezy here now 10 degrees but a bit of a windchill factor.

The main rain belt is now away, as evidenced by excellent clarity in the visibility compared to an hour ago, low cloud rolling in from the west under the eastward-retreating frontal cloud veil, and a drop from 10 C to 8 C. From the looks of things, we have just one more main low pressure system to come (on Monday) before pressure rises from the south to give us (apart from Scotland) a spell of dry weather until the middle of January - meaning colder, (but that is to be expected at this time of year), but at least losing what had seemingly become an endless chain of wet and windy days and nights. Brummie Simon has it that it could get really cold between around Jan 10-15; my guess is that it's still too early to be sure.

Edit: From Dec 22nd onwards, 2 minutes of daylight can be added per day, until 21 June; so today is already longer by 14 minutes!
