Funnily enough Flay, mine is also navy blue, just like Paddington's!! However, my new Winter hat is not like his but a retro crocheted beanie/cloche with a fetching crochet flower on the side. I look rather like a 70s drippy hippy crossed with someone on an Aldermarston march!!

I have absolutely no doubt that your brand new dc is substantially more stylish than wot mine was (grammer) - even though they're the same colour. I never had a retro crocheted beanie/cloche with or without a fetching crochet flower either. I'm sure you look stunning in them.

(When I was c five, I had a balaclava helmet, a great thing on a cold day, but certainly not stylish. )

it depresses me that i find the present chill weather so intolerable and the nasty bit has not arrived yet, all the forecasts indicate monstrously low temperatures ... i huddle indoors in dread of the big chill

It's been the worst kind of day, grey mist, not got above freezing. Cloud started to disperse slightly around half-two and sun briefly made a weak, watery and misty appearance.

Saly, remind us again what the problem with your iplayer is so we can all try and think of a solution. The C4 programme about the weather that I mentioned (which I didn't see yesterday) is repeated tonight at 7pm on 4seven so I'll catch it then.

Calum - it is depressing and perfect weather for hibernating under the duvet but it will be considerably warmer by Friday (although very wet and windy) I always feel the worst months are January and February, everything so flat after Christmas and nothing but mist, rain, drizzle, fog, ice, snow - it just becomes endless and, being in the country, everything looks brown, dirty and muddy.

Living in t'fells makes a big difference, high up, yes, but weather wise never a dull moment, while views and the weather changes help get through dreech stuff. Currently freezing fog, endless iron-hard frosts all day every day for three days.
