the key thing is that they 'return from the grave', and if they really enjoy a party by having a sleep ...then so be it, anything goes...

i look forward to that pic, if she does agree caliban! which your sister might do as she may well feel she was 'someone else' dressed as she was, and therefore looks like 'someone else', unrecogniseable. i bet it is a cracking photo...probably a distinct departure amongst the usual photo album pics!

having public processions all over the place isn't what i meant above actually....but i'm sure any passers by may guess my gist on that bit...hopefully!

Have all the ghosties and ghoulies gone now .......... (aka handsomefortune!)
A lovely bright sunny day here, 10° and barometer 992.8 but torrential rain last night. Our official firework display is on the 5th but no doubt there'll be some whizzes and bangs locally if it stays dry.

I'm just sorting our my herbs and spices as I'm going to do a Moroccan style lamb today which hopefully will be just right for a Wintry night, probably with couscous but maybe rice.

A crisp Autumn's day in the Pennines - bright sunshine, 6○, clear skies - just got in from a spot of gardening. "There's a shrub that could do with pruning", I was told: turns out to be what I call a "tree", and it was trying to hide behind a holly bush. Oh, how we laughed .

Two batches of tablet successfully made.

1°C first thing today, and windscreen scraping was required. It's now about 10°, and 989 mb. Sunny. I expect it will freeze again this evening. I pass the site of one of Dundee's two official fireworks/bonfire displays on my way to and from work, but as I work till 8.00 pm on Mondays, all the jollifications will be over, I expect.

(Sudden off-topic thought - Why do Scots celebrate Guy Fawkes night? He didn't try to blow up our parliament.)

I had a conversation with local cab driver once just before Bonfire Night who was complaining about the cost of buying fireworks for his children. He said "Look, this Fawkes guy was a complete failure - so what is there to celebrate? He messed up, big time, he should be forgotten"

[Pantomime mode]Oh yes there was.[/Pantomime mode]

It was at Parliament Square next to St Giles' Cathedral. We weren't a shower of woad-painted savages you know. (That came later )

                      That gets two:
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I have several of one, but not the other, unless "Anna S-E Wales" is sufficient.

The cab driver was quite right, and it's not often you can say that.

certainly is, but I don't believe R3's Mr Handley when he keeps saying the South-East might get snow
                            surely nowhere near cold enough
EDIT - one of the drawbacks of UPVC windows - it's very noisy in torrential rain

It's cold enough for it in the pit heaps easily the hardest frost of the autumn/winter so far.

Interesting that Mr. H said he had warmed more and more to Bruckner as he had got older - so plenty of time for salymap yet........
