Horrible, grey, dull. Been a bit sniffy, going to cook mega-hot chicken curry with, onion bhajis, spinach and dhal pakoras, topped with crispy fried onions and natural yoghurt. Should sort the bugs out and send them packing. Uni of Birmingham did research, chillies and spices are more effective than antibiotics. Makes sense to me.

Anna's meals always sound enviably delicious and exotic.

.......... and expensive ................ or is that a misconception on my part ?

No mercia, cheap as anything. You just need training, I doubt if my meal tonight will cost me more than (hang on, I'll get the calculator out|) ÂŁ2.00 or less. Two free range chicken legs (one for now, one for tomorrow) is ÂŁ1.80 (half of that is 90p) now, what price an onion crispy fried? Big pot of Greek Yog, ÂŁ1 Waitrose (I shall use about a quarter) as for onion bhajis, etc. all store cupboards items, innit?
and I am now offline for a bit.

on second thoughts I don't think one chicken leg, a bit of onion and yoghurt would be quite enough for me
                perhaps there's another ingredient

I don't know, but it all sounds mouthwateringly delish. Anna, I'm sure you're right about the therapeutic effects of chillies. Curry is the first thing I go for when I have a cold.

Weather news - 1 degree this morning, then another sunny day.

The latest cold preventative is Echinacea, apparently... it's been scientifically proved. Just heard this on a TV chat show, however.

The amount of chicken does sound meagre but I omitted to mention the vegetables involved (!) and as it was served with both bhajis and pakoras (I know they are usually a starter but we all have our funny little ways), then add cardomom rice and it was a fairly substantial meal!

I saw this article about Echinacea in the Telegraph yesterday. I have a friend who takes it throughout the Winter so I think if you're prone to colds it's worth trying.

Thanks for posting the link, Anna. It was indeed discussed during a section dealing with news items of the day.

Might be all right, but curry is rather more appetising, I should have thought.

A lot of research is being done as to the beneficial effects of spices. One in particular, turmeric, is currently being trialled (with good results) in relation to bowel cancer, staving off Alzheimers and immediate post-stroke treatment. My cousin, who has two small children, always adds turmeric when she's cooking them rice as she says it's a natural antiseptic. As for colds, I seldom get them, but there's nothing like a good shot of chilli for relieving blocked noses and making you feel 100% better! Ginger is a brilliant anti-nausea remedy and the health benefits of garlic are well known. However, sceptics would say that if spices are so good for you why do people from Pakistan or India still get ill?

Ah I can't have turmeric, it reacts with my asthma!!!

Not a bad day to start with, but overcast now.

Off to school orchestra this evening. Wonder if the kids have remembered anything from last week!?!?!?
