Weather in Ultima Thule: as if you care.
In four days the temperature has dropped by over 20C - last night it was 3C.
Fierce rain ad windstorms - equinoctial pretty well. Gladioli decimated in more or less one 36 hr period.

I still get Christmas cards from a very aged lady who calls herself "Aunt Margaret". She is the widow of my late father's first cousin - so no relation at all.

PS to ferneyhoughgeliebte: Yes it does, doesn't it!
Another G&S quote applies too. Iolanthe, Ithink.

... indeed yes : wiki reminds us -

"In 1842 a Marriage to a Deceased Wife's Sister Bill was introduced and defeated by strong opposition. "Although seemingly a minor skirmish, [it] had far-ranging implications and was fought on the political scene almost annually for most of the Victorian period". The desire of widowed men to marry the sister of their deceased wife became the subject of particular agitation from the 1860s onwards and strong feelings were roused on both sides. However, it was to be nearly 50 years before the campaign for a change in the law was successful, despite the introduction of draft legislation in Parliament on many occasions. The lengthy nature of the campaign was referred to in the Gilbert and Sullivan opera Iolanthe, in which the Queen of the Fairies sings "He shall prick that annual blister, marriage with deceased wife's sister"."

... I am normally a great fan of Matthew Arnold: it came as quite a shock to me that he was a fervent opponent of the attempt in 1866 [a Bill introduced (but subsequently defeated) by Thomas Chambers, Liberal MP for Marylebone] to allow the marriage to a deceased wife's sister - Arnold's opposition appears most strongly in Culture & Anarchy (chap vi, 'Our Liberal Practitioners') and Friendship's Garland (letter viii).

Sorry. we got diverted by kinship and marriage partners! Well, it's normal weather here, looking like rain but a pleasant day. Our lowest temp overnight was 4C few days ago and rain and strong winds overnight yesterday. I bought two bunches of gladioli last week, unusual colours, pale green and deep cream (not the usual flowers I buy but they were reduced) having arranged them in my only large glass vase someone asked if I were turning my sitting room into a funeral chapel!!

Anna, that was a pity. Flowers aren't just for funerals.

It looks a sunny, if coldish, day from indoors so must get to the little shops near me before I do anything else.

            Bestio, as Mahlerei says..........

I see Mahlerei has resigned. I hope all is well with him, and he and Snow are enjoying this bonus sunny weather.
[ed] I apologise if this has been already noted.

              And any news of Lat?

At the moment a lovely autumn day here. As I typed that the sun went in - ah well.

Have 12 or 14 people coming on Sunday, just for a short while, and am panicking already. The dust, the cobwebs I can't see now but they can. It's a goodbye to cousin going back to Adelaide - visit went too fast.

Well bit of a overcast day today.

I emailed Radio3 re their piano season and had an answer back re piano playing with dyspraxia. They contacted me back and I will be taking part in the interval in tonight's programme at around 8.15 and 8.40

Little pink clouds here, reflecting the dawn glow.

Probably not the best sign? Pretty, anyway.
