Morning, nice sunny morning if a mite chilly here - boards seem more chaotic than ever.

      Coffee calls.........

Quite possibly, Bbm: for the past two mornings the Central Heating (set to 17 C) has come on of its own account - always a sign!

Cloudy with bouts of sunshine in the Pennines so far this morning.

The man delivering the week's forecast this morning stated that the summer is now over, meteorologically-speaking. Ominous as this sounded, I think what he was trying to say in that coded way of scientists was that the circulation is now speeding up - meaning that weather systems will be travelling faster across the Atlantic than they have been over the past couple of months, and will partly in consequence be more vigorous; but this does not indicate any lowering of temperatures, yet, just more breeziness; it is common at this time of the year for depressions to be deeper, because of extra warm moisture being imported into them from hurricanes engaging with the circulation, this of course being the tropical cyclone season in the Carribbean/SW Atlantic, where about half of our depressions originate.

So, what happened to our constant blue skies today? Morning ok but rather chill, max 19, but dark cloud has been building rapidly now and not looking good.

Friend who is passionate Bristol Rovers fan (someone has to be) travelled to High Wycombe yesterday to watch match - it was abandoned after 65 minutes on health & safety grounds due to stand being hit by lightening and proximity of pylons behind ground. And, they were 3-1 up!! He is not happy .......

S_A, you have really cheered me up with your forecast - right little ray of sunshine you are!

When working, with very short holidays, I tried to keep a week for the first week of September, which never

                seemed to let me down.

Reminds me of my school reports. Always does her best, which is not quite good enough to get by!
It says, on Met Office website, that October last year was brilliantly hot and sunny.

Optimists are setting themselves up for disappointment, Anna, whereas us pessimists always win out in the end. For us, if a depressing prospect proves right, there is of course no cause for disillusionment, whereas, if it turns out wrong, we rejoice!

Oh, and checking my weather diary for last year, I see that the last 3 days of September and the first 3 of October were unseasonably warm. On October 2nd the temperature here in Dulwich reached 26 C - which probably means it reached 28 or 29 C in the centre of town. Otherwise October experienced pretty much normal temperatures - those averaging at 1.6 C above the monthly mean for here, taking daytime maxima and nighttime minima into account.

my weather diary for last year, impressive!

bet it's hard to get away from you when you start up about the weather at the bus stop!

how far do you go back serial apologist?

will it be an indian summer.....or is that really it?

anna needs hypnotising with poetry about the beauty of autumnal colours - they are fantastic though ...before the depression starts proper, which includes the weather, short days and downing street, as ferneyhoughgeliebte so rightly suggests. fabulous weather ahead for posting stuff on here, whereas in good weather i feel soooooooooo guilty for being indoors.

                              BANK HOLIDAY

                              Bank holiday, bank holiday
Why does it always rain on a bank holiday?
Whether it be August, Easter, late or early May
You can say for certain it will rain on the bank holiday.
