The developing weather pattern doesn't look good, for the rest of the summer, I'm afraid.

What do you base that assumption on S_A? Is it the Gulf Stream being dragged North again or the number of moons this year (I think years when there are 13 moons are bad for harvests, well that's according to farming folklore, are there 13 this year?)

Andrew Marr(ed) described the scene as "looking rather like a Monet" - to which the organiser of the "flotilla", (for such it is - not a convoy), as Whistleresque, or some such adjective. Turner would be more like it - a Turner run out of paint, resorting to H and HB pencils.

It looks more like the jet stream dipping and then tracking unseasonably southwards, Anna, as it has been doing for the past 2 years, instead of complying with textbook norms, i.e. diverting north between June and September as the Azores high pressure zone shifts north positioning itself in the mid-north Atlantic, and thereby fending off the eastward drift of Atlantic depressions which deliver the rain-bearing frontal systems that usually fill the aquifers in the winter half of the year. This is said to be cyclical over successions of years, rather than just annual, with probably some bearing either on or from on the El Nino/La Nina phenomenon, and its knock-on effects on global circulation. To be honest I don't know enough about lunar magnetic pull to understand how that effects Earth beyond tidal ranges: all I can see from looking at the weather charts at the moment is no Azores high anywhere to be seen - just successions of low pressure systems approaching from the south west.

Talking of rain, it's 11c here and I've had to put the heating on. The rain is still heavy too, glad I wasn't on the Thames today. Nice to see all the boats but the LPO didn't seem to play as far as I could hear.

At about age 14 I came home from school, ate my tea and went upstairs to my bedroom where I found, completely unannounced, a brand new pinky-orangy Playtex stretched across the back of the very chair upon which I was about to sit to do my homework

My mother made some remark about 'running it in for comfort' and no more was said
