The storms that did develop this afternoon in the vicinity of Sevenoaks and Maidstone have moved east into the North Sea with the weather system that triggered them. We seem to have been lucky here in S London by a margin - it's been the hottest day so far, up here on the "mountain" (25 C max). Saly might have been on the receiving end, however. The storm near Sevenoaks looks to have been pretty severe, to judge by the rainfall shadow, but covering quite a small area.

The temperatures have peaked today, and should start falling off from tomorrow onwards, and be back to below normal by Saturday. I expect we'll be in for more heavy showers and storms tomorrow, once the heat builds up again.
No Saly has just had some rather distant rumbles of thunder and some big black clouds, thanks

We're having warm weather for the Monday holiday (Memorial Day) with the porch thermometer reading 70F/21C. The sun's out and everyone around the neighborhood is getting ready to barbecue. There are no midges or mosquitoes out yet but I'll bear in mind Flosshilde's advice (post 4222) about vitamin B as a midge deterrent.

Bit sad about the heat tailing off, even if sleep has been irregular, and I have felt a bit strange in the head... why do heat waves give me such an enormous appetite? You'd expect the reverse wouldn't you?

That rogue male Tigger, a big ginger-and-white, keeps coming in at night to eat our new cat Mizzy's food, so now I have to hide it - Mizzy comes to me at all hours to tell me to get it out again. Studying form on microchip catflaps, but they seem a bit small and unreliable... Mizzy's a fairly chunky Norwegian Forest Cross, picked up on the city centre streets, in the Freshfields rescue centre for nearly a year after someone brought her in a cardboard box...

I think I chose her because she looked the most miserable, least friendly cat in there...
Oh, can't you guess? Just a few months on, she's now an over-eager, devoted, hugely cuddly and loving best friend!

Ah, well, in that case 68 Fahrenheit is less comfortable than I thought - I'd prefer it a bit higher

                        Welcome to Planet Fhg, jayne!

                        Great story about Mizzy, too!

Muggy in the Pennines, in spite of the breeze and cloud cover - my asthma ain't impressed!

Do you mind if I don't get my coat: it's frightfully warm!

I have a "surge aquillo" surrounding 'Beverly Sills' (iris, that is).

Nothing to report in my garden except weeds, although rogue Buddlia, Weigelia and Dogwood are still there, also some rose cuttings I took when my friend next door died and the new neighbours paved over her front garden. I am quite lucky with rose cuttings; put 6 in a pot and 2 or 3 with take and flower.

Much cooler today and hope back pain will lessen as it doesn't like the heat, contrary to belief.
