Saly, never dry herbs in the sun, it'll leach out the essential oils. Never gather early in the day, wait until dew has evaporated, (otherwise prone to mould) loosely tie in bundles and hang in warm dark place (like from the slats of airing cupboard if you have one instead of a fancy combi-boiler)

Clouded up here, hope it won't rain, should have been concentrating on garden this afternoon but I think I overdosed on it yesterday ........

We've had a beautiful day here! Sunny, dry, no humidity, and just the right amount of breeze. The other part of the picture is that traffic is jammed up and the sidewalks (pavements) are teeming with tourists! C'est la vie d'ete en Newport. Sorry can't do accents.

Just to give you all a laugh Lady G and I are in Southern California and from Tuesday until yesterday had not seen the sun - coats on the lot. Even now there is still a wind that carries a bit of a chill.

Still, up to now at least, Albert Hammond has proved correct...........and we haven't seen a single moth!

anton, California! That explains why you're posting at this time. That chill-carrying wind will, no doubt, wend it's way across the continent to bring a chill wind to the east coast. After a sunny, warm day, we're having a chilly evening because of heavy fog.

If I might return to measurement - in the UK we also have Wales & football pitches as units of area (?) - as in 'the size of Wales', or of '3 football pitches'. Cricket pitches used to be a favourite unit of length, but they seem to have been superseded by buses.

Be that as it may it's going to be another scorcher here, temperature up to 24 Celsius, but it's going to drop in the next couple of days. I'm afraid I still think in Fahrenheit - 68 degrees is a comfortable temperature, & I've no idea what that is in Celsius.

Marthe - vitamin B is apparently a good midge deterrent - I took it for a week before a holiday on the West coast of Scotland (home of the most voracious midges) & didn't have any trouble.

For the time being, yes; not to worry, there's always × number of times the size of the Isle of Man...

Not for me! I'd understand those less well than Imperial measure!

I doubt that the scandals of fraud &c. that have affected cricket will have done anything other than to discourage pitches as a measurement unit, but buses are rather daft as one, since they come (or at least several) in all shapes and sizes, none of which are to be seen in this neck of the woods.

Funny, is it not, how some people in UK (I'm not for one moment suggesting that you're one of them) stick to using Fahrenheit because they don't approve of these foreign alternatives?...

It looks as if it could be cooler today at around 21c.

                      That's an easy one, Floss - 68 Fahrenheit = 20 Celsius.

I still think in Fahrenheit. It's a really lovely day. I was watering my plants early on. The colours in the garden change weekly and are currently mainly mauve and orange. A lot of aquilegias and alliums.

Has that fact influenced your choice of forum ID, by chance?

                              Unlikely now, BBM...

The storms that did develop this afternoon in the vicinity of Sevenoaks and Maidstone have moved east into the North Sea with the weather system that triggered them. We seem to have been lucky here in S London by a margin - it's been the hottest day so far, up here on the "mountain" (25 C max). Saly might have been on the receiving end, however. The storm near Sevenoaks looks to have been pretty severe, to judge by the rainfall shadow, but covering quite a small area.

The temperatures have peaked today, and should start falling off from tomorrow onwards, and be back to below normal by Saturday. I expect we'll be in for more heavy showers and storms tomorrow, once the heat builds up again.
