Did you get any sun today cloughie? I think the forecast was for coastal areas in the South & West to still suffer from mist. Here we got 26.9 (80.4), tomorrow and Friday promised to be hotter. The Telegraph says the Government are on the verge of issuing a heatwave warning! Honestly, how ridiculous is that if they think we cannot cope with a couple of sunny days? Do they issue warnings to anyone who books a holiday in the Med or beyond?

And if you are on the top floor of an old building (i.e. in the attic) you have a free-standing electric fan

sunshine blue skies and a cheery outlook all round the middle kingdom ... [no big office blocks or factory farms round here!]

lunchtime concert in All Saints a delight with sun light streaming through the mostly plain windows .... talented young lady played inter alia Sonatina for Clarinet & Piano by Arnold ... great piece

Not until around 5pm Anna, and haven't got the cloudless skies we deserve yet - maybe we'll get it dreckly!

I see a little patch of blue through the clouds. Maybe the sun will shine for a bit today. Maybe I can get the mower out and cut the grass before the lawn turns into a hayfield!

Indeed it can. I left our building at 2.30 this afternoon and walked out into the heat. 23 C according to the car thermometer.

(OK, 23 may not be much by S of England standards, but it's the hottest it's been this year, and they're still skiing on Cairngorm 80 miles away. )

True, I'd still rather not be in it at all though.

Another very sultry day. Almost a 10 degree surge in heat to what we have been having. Too much really!

I might even cycle to Dalston tonight. Takes just as long on public transport..

It's only been, at 26.4, a mere .4 of a degree cooler than Wednesday but it's felt so much hotter and the breeze is a hot one, stirring up dust and pollen, it's really uncomfortable at the moment. Last night was pleasant, sitting outside at 10.30 with a tiny crescent moon hanging in the sky ..... It promises to be a very humid, uncomfortable, night.

After another day or so of rain and fog, the sun is hovering beneath the clouds. As soon as it breaks through, it will be as sultry and humid as the weather Anna is describing. Memorial Day (Monday, May 28) weekend marks the unofficial beginning of the summer season here. The beaches open, the tourists flow in, traffic and parking become impossible. No complaints. We need the $$$$$ that visitors bring in. High season here is like throwing a three-month long party to which the entire world is invited.

Vince and Muskie to the rescue ....

On the hottest day in 14 years,Deputy Dawg gets to enjoy the cool comfort of the Sheriff's icehouse as Vince and Musky attempt to infiltrate it.

am51...thanks for that. I haven't watched Deputy Dawg in ages. I got a good chuckle from that. Interestingly, many of the local ponds here were "ice house" ponds. In the days before electric refrigeration, there was a great demand for ice by the many hotels, restaurants, and millionaires' mansions that needed to keep food cool and fresh during the summer. Ice harvesting was a big business here.

GLORIOUS heat here in the NW, heat you can really feel, get drunk on... bare-legged in a summer dress, an almost forgotten pleasure...
PLEASE let it continue, never mind the sticky nights or the thunderstorms to come.

Hedgehogs come out in the midday heat to drink at our various bowls and birdbaths, ignoring ducks and pigeons who were there first.
We'd put a pond somewhere but always worry about cats (or hogs) falling in. Slugs multiply rapidly in these temperatures, if you find them all over the remnants in a cat-bowl or other used receptacle, leave them to it - in the morning it will be perfectly clean and dry!

God I love the heat.. think I might stick around till the dawn chorus, then watch the jackdaws' and woodpigeons' first frantic feed on the rear lawn...
