To add colour to an otherwise very grey day, schoolgirls just now released a green smoke bomb in the street, amid much squealing and screaming. For a moment I thought they'd set fire to an environmentalist!

The weatherperson spoke of a cold front from the northwest scooping across the country tomorrow. I like that term: sweeping would have been my description, but "scooping" is just what cold fronts do: They literally scoop up warm air ahead of them, which builds into tall cloud towers, and is the reason why it often rains heavily when a cold front passes through, unlike the steady rain associated with warm fronts.

After that, it looks like we are back to dry conditions for a while.

Thanks for your forecasts S-A. They may be the same as the BBC ones but they convince me. Today was much better but bitterly cold. It's that high wind I can't stand, it's been a gale recently. Bins and lids everywhere.

That is so funny! Bless Lats, he made me laugh out loud.

It's easy to imagine strange things in the night when there are odd noises though isn't it. I heard someone laughing outside the window once, then realised it was an amorous fox calling to its mate.

Ah - the back of the front has just arrived here . Lovely altocumulus back edge, just like bubblewrap.

Funny you should say that, sal. I heard such a noise late one night, assumed it to be a fox, and it turned out to be one of two drunken women waiting at the bus stop!

Good morning S-A and all. S-A you have a nice trick of turning things on their heads. Apparently it's women's day on Breakfast [or summit]. No Dame Ethel Smyth though, Antongould will be disappointed.

Weather, well seems reasonable for the moment, haven't seen the forecast.

as i woke for the regular appointment i thought what a lovely blue sky and sunshine day it looked, that scooping cold front had passed over the middle kingdom and given us a thorough wash including behind the ears ..... and then Tom Service and that bl$$dy assault course came on £3 again and i turned the switch and pulled the duvet above my head and had another thirty minutes of rather decent kip ... sun is still shining and sky is still brilliant blue ... may we rely on the bbc forecasts of 15 type temperatures at the weekend S_A?
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

Yeah, looks good for all of us this weekend, Calum. There may be overnight fog taking some time to clear in your neck of the woods, mind.

Wonderful clear sunny blue-skied morning in London. One could actually feel the warmth of the sun by 10 o'clock
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
