The white flowering cherries are in blossom, (so beautiful, they look like they're covered with snow) the pink flowering ones just starting to unfurl. The daffodils have been out for some days, there is a grass bank round the corner entirely covered in primroses, all the hazel catkins are out, suddenly it's looking very pretty, snowdrops are still going strong and we got to 16.2 (61) at two o'clock. Thanks for forecast S_A, Met Office says we'll get the heavy rain on Sunday as well - but as sleet, which doesn't bode well for the blossom. I wish we could send some of today's weather across to Marthe!

Thanks Anna! Your garden sounds lovely with all those blooms. My snowdrops are still going strong (since December) and crocus, squill, and hellebore are out now.

As for St. David's Day, I have a friend and neighbor who is Welsh (her husband is English), who once came to the pub on St. David's Day with leeks draped around her neck! Jean S. is a bit of a character but we love her for her wicked sense of humor. I've just been reading about the Lewis and Clark Expodition of 1804-1806. Meriwether Lewis was from a Welsh family by way of Virginia. No mention of St. David's Day while he and Clark were out on the trail west.

Chillier today. Just been watching pictures of devastating twisters in the US. I have cousins near Nashville, so hope they are okay. Marthe is not in the danger zone, if my geography is any good, but they're warning of more danger today.

I think the danger of any further tornadoes in the States in now past, Mahlerei, though I see near-hurricane-force winds, associated with the low whose cold front produced those twisters, predicted today for Canada's Ottawa province. So - all best wishes to our Toronto correspondent, Pmartel!

Here, meanwhile, the rain-bearing front expected to be passing through right now is producing no rain whatsoever! Tomorrow looks set for a substantial dollop of the wet stuff - after which - at long last - the circulation appears to be livening up, with promise of cool, breezy westerlies and "at least" one more wet day, probably Wednesday.

Reading about the twisters, although we complain about our weather, thank goodness we never get really severe conditions.
Edit: Just looked at Met Office, they have a yellow warning for London and S.E. which says "There is a risk that persistent and, at times, heavy rain affecting many parts of England and Wales on Sunday may turn to sleet and wet snow later on Sunday over parts of central and eastern England along with southeast England. This could give a few cm of wet snow in places, mainly on higher ground such as the Chilterns and the Downs"

Yes, if we do get "severe conditions" here, they are normally of short duration and limited in area. Like tornadoes...

No danger of extreme weather here in RI but I'm sending good wishes to pmartel in Canada. A friend from high school days is in Huntsville, Alabama. She said that the University of Ala., where she works, closed early yesterday because of the threat of extreme weather. The sun is trying to break through here and the temps have warmed up a bit. It still feels raw and damp. Meanwhile it's a good afternoon to sort through some old papers (and dispose of 90% of them) while listening to the live Met broadcast of Aida.

Would like to have heard the live Met broadcast of Aida marthe. We seem to be missing our usual broadcast from the US as we have a special weekend of live broadcasts from all over the UK.

We are promised a wintery outlook weatherwise [sorry!]. High winds, rain, snow in some places. Sad for next door's Camellia which is in full flower and I can see it from my front windows too.

Forget the nuts, still 8.3 in Wales, positively balmy, and after clearing rain, blue skies, nothing but blue skies ............ blue skies from now on!!
