Show-off Caliban I couldn't rustle up one Welsh word for my special Welsh friend, Roland, still driving and playing the organ in several places, including a crem[!] at 92 this year. Incidentally, a retired Barrister too.

Few cirrus whisps, otherwise clear skies here over a hazy London, shade temperature 11.3 C here too, though seemingly much warmer in the sun, when I could have dispensed with the jacket while out shopping with the Spring in my step. Trees all of a sudden in flower that don't normally blossom here for another month. COTW Sally Beamish's 3rd string quartet, now atmospheric, now full of bounce, seems so perfect an accompaniment - so thumbs up for whoever was responsible for timely planning.

Cold rain falling today with temps just a few degrees above freezing. The first day of March is cold and dreary rather than "coming in like a lion."

Trees all of a sudden in flower that don't normally blossom here for another month

The white flowering cherries are in blossom, (so beautiful, they look like they're covered with snow) the pink flowering ones just starting to unfurl. The daffodils have been out for some days, there is a grass bank round the corner entirely covered in primroses, all the hazel catkins are out, suddenly it's looking very pretty, snowdrops are still going strong and we got to 16.2 (61) at two o'clock. Thanks for forecast S_A, Met Office says we'll get the heavy rain on Sunday as well - but as sleet, which doesn't bode well for the blossom. I wish we could send some of today's weather across to Marthe!

Very pleasant here in Kent. Sky having a snooze upstairs after a long run this morning and I've had the rabbits in the garden for the first time in months. Getting a bit nippy now.

According to a 16th-century joke, the Welsh were famous for their love of toasted cheese – St Peter was said to have got rid of a troublesome "company of Welchman" who were troubling the peace of heaven by going outside and shouting caws pobi – "that is as moche as to say 'Rosty'd ches!' Which thynge the Welchman herying ran out of heven a grete pace".
And who wouldn't be tempted from eternal bliss by such a prospect?
