Not much cop here either - dark and damp all day, pretty well.

Just the day to do the launderette, as I'm away off to Swissland again on Friday.

Any idea S_A of weather conditions for the big match at Twickenham on Saturday?
Fine and clear for Saturday, Anna. Temperatures dependent on what time the game runs for, but are expected to max at 9 C and fall to 3 C by midnight.

I shouldn't think there's a scientific explanation to what you describe, Anna. Maybe you're better at dodging large raindrops because they are easier to see coming?

quicker to hit you all over innit .... and it keeps on coming ....

been a day for the inner climate today ....listening obsessively to Old Ideas, Cohen's latest opus which has hit me as hard as a Dylan album

Visibility less than 100 metres all day, can't see the fells at all, driving rain in great wowing billows - that typical very fine fell country rain that gets in everywhere and soaks quicker than anything, very powerful SW wind which seriously undermines the paper temperature. In fact, insidious and subtle hypothermia weather up here.

First skylark of the year flitting overhead this morning - well it seemed to think it was spring - sheer joy, lifted my heart. Then this evening just after seven with the sky partially clear and an almost warm breeze out there I managed to track the International Space Station for two or three minutes as it sped between Venus and Jupiter, 230 miles up, before disappearing just south of here into the clouds. Have to say I got a bit excited - never spotted it before.

Had a wasp buzzing round my room last night. Much too early surely?

Probably nearly as big as a hornet, and a queen, Petrushka. Nothing unusual. They start coming out from hibernation around this time of year, and go looking for suitable nesting places.

Just now spotted one of those queen wasps as I returned from the 5-mile circular walk I would normally reserve for the summer months, were it not for today's glorious weather providing a hopeful glimpse of what is to come.

I had one of those queen hornets come in, couple of years ago, frightening, whoosed it out through the window Today reached 16.2, lovely to walk at lunchtime in thin top and lightweight jacket and feel the warmth breathe on one's body and face, do we all turn to towards to the sun in these circumstances, it's odd isn't it, is there a racial memory of collecting Vitamin D or am I daft! Edit: Do not answer that! There is the most beautifu sunset, all red and gold and azure.

Not daft at all Anna. Now that I have reactive lenses in my specs Ilove sitting on the garden seat in the sun. Unfortunately the sun doesn't reach my living/computer room until it's going down, when it shines full on the TV screen. It's lovely to have the longer days though - I really dislike dark evenings.

Yes, a lovely spring day here in Kent; and a mild evening too. Long may it continue.

Lovely and warm here but rain tomorrow. I shouldn't complain about rain because we haven't had much precipitaton this winter and will be heading in to the warmer months with a lower water table.

Feb 23 (Reuters) - The biggest lobster ever caught in Maine, a 27-pounder (12.25 kg) nicknamed "Rocky" with claws tough enough to snap a man's arm, was released back into the ocean on Thursday after being trapped in a shrimp net last week, marine officials said.
The state fisheries commissioner announced that Maine’s lobstermen last year harvested more than 100 million pounds of lobster, the biggest catch ever. Patrick Keliher, the Department of Marine Resources commissioner, said on Tuesday that the preliminary 2011 numbers showed that the lobster population along the state’s jagged coast was healthy. The previous record of 94.7 million pounds, worth more than $313 million, was set in 2010.
bumper catch but bum prices eh .... always the catch ...... [groan]
