Ditchling Beacon, I meant. Had to get the atlas. Time to stop relying on the old memory!

I think you suggested it yourself by initiating the whole John Ireland revival / discovery / reappraisal including using your influence to get SMP to play him! - took the PC with may again through the whitest and coldest morning of the winter. It is a wonderful piece IMHO especially the slow movement - I am now as S_A recommended having a Delius morning - I see if he is getting a bit of exposure on BBC4 and R3 this year.

Hello again Anton. Yes we must do our best for the British composers we like/love. Heard some Malcolm Arnold on the radio today, knew it was him but didn't stop to look up the schedule. For £1.40 a week the Radio Times should detail all R3 programmes and take up less space with rubbish. Back to the housework.

Frost still on N-facing roofs, otherwise a beautiful afternoon down here. Next week;s weather in the UK is expected to see-saw between cold (Monday and Tuesday), mild (Wednesday and Thursday), and cold-ish on Friday.

                Get well soon, BBM!

We had no frost at all, temperature was going up and down over 24 hours like a yo-yo, lowest was 2 degrees, been a fairly constant 8 and sunny and bright today. This unseasonable weather is certainly speeding January (usually the longest most gruelling month) on its way without too many problems and certainly, as no heating is required, great in financial terms! Swalec are owing me loadsamoney, which I will reclaim once danger of snow is past

Lucky you Anna. I asked for the lower monthly DDs on gas/elec, but will have to pay balance in the summer. Read meters recently - wow, hundreds to pay off as I have to have heating on 24/7 as feel the cold a lot.

I must say my reluctance to sign up to direct debits has served me well in the past... I think the current shower have been playing pinochle (or possibly bezique?) with my payments for years.

Still feels cold to me - possibly a tad up on yesterday. Pinkish brightish sky.

I know dd doesn't suit everybody, but it is still usually the cheapest way to pay. As you say energy suppliers will, given half a chance, change your dd amounts to suit them, either upwards so they get an interest free loan at customers' expense, or downwards so that customers start owing large amounts which they may have difficulty in paying off. This can make changing supplier very difficult.

I have changed on a number of occasions, and have found that suppliers will come and go on monthly dd amounts if you can tell them why you believe they are over/undercharging. I read my meter on the first of each month, and plug the reading into a spreadsheet. This shows my usage over the last ten years or so, and also shows me my debit/credit balance. It's not difficult to set up, and avoids nasty surprises!

We've had a blast of frigid weather for the past 48 hours but temps are rising now. Tomorrow it's supposed to rain!

saly, last Winter caught me out paying a low DD and I landed up owing them money, so rather than pay them a lump sum the DD was increased to cancel out debt during Summer months. I still prefer DD as you don't miss the money to being landed with a big quarterly bill, last year I owed them the unbelievable sum of £344! But now they owe me money Only 0 degrees at the mo, it'll be a chilly night!
