Wow, 1970?? I wasn't even in high school then and I may well remember a nasty winter in the suburbs of Toronto.

You wouldn't recognize the city now. Over 2M people, smoggy as hell in the summer and several neighbourhoods have been ghettoized with crime and gun violence.

We have been classed as 'New York North' or New York wannabe'

Send me a PM so I can send you some recent photos of the downtown core

A very, very dear Canadian friend of mine, long resident in Toronto, has just recently moved into a town house in Livingston Road (M1E 1K6) with a fantastic view of the lake, and she loves it there.

I'm in the Beach area of Toronto, a great neighbourhood with a 'small town' feel to it.

The only headache is when the tourists come in during the summer and think THEY own it.

Taking public transit daily during that time is a headache.

BEST TIME for Beach residents is Spring, Fall and yes Winter

I've taken some stunning winter photos along our boardwalk

                I thought I'd post this article to give you an idea as to what we are up against this is from to-day's Toronto Star;

Latest news, reviews and advice on buying a car, saving gas, electric vehicles, tires and more. Visit Toronto Star Autos for news and trends in the auto industry.

When I lived north west of Toronto up on Lake Huron, I had MORE than my share of 'white knuckle' driving.

Living in the city, I still drive, but don't own a car and this is ONE of the reasons.

Other reasons for NOT owning a car are expense in the city and GRIDLOCK

Yes, folks, we have it here

Thank you to those people who wished me well. I think I have turned a corner now, thankfully!!

The temperature has certaqi9nly dropped quite a bit, of late. Certainly noticeable when you have those horrid electric storage heaters!! Not very good at all!

Stay indoors BBM, it's much colder than I realised. Sun in the house is lovely, when I opened the front door to someone, wow, very nasty if you've had a cold or flu.

Hard frost midst the pit heaps last night. Very crisp and fresh on this morning's wander - John Ireland PC ideal for the occasion salymap........

Nice choice Anton - alternatives could be Delius' "Summer Night on a River", or Bridge's languid "Summer". I always picture Bridge sitting atop the Dunkery Beacon near his home, looking out over a shimmering Sussex Weald on a hot July day, the sound of a distant horse-drawn binder at the harvesting, the smell of the wheat caught on updrafts, oblivious to the biting horseflies...

I had a great al fresco time with John Ireland earlier this week - later on in the dawn bike ride mentioned earlier, by the time I'd got to the Mall, his "London Overture" started, which I'd never heard before. A delight to pedal down to Admiralty Arch as the sun rose, round Trafalgar Square and along the Strand and Fleet Street with the LSO and Barbirolli giving the piece his all, especially that "Piccadilly" theme
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

good eyesight, that Bridge chappie - what with Dunkery Beacon being on Exmoor some 220 miles from the Sussex Weald...

I worry about you pedalling through central London with those headphones on, Cali...

Me too. Seems extremely dangerous. Good overture though. How have you avoided hearing it for all those years? Err, 35 or so ? Sorry.
