Hello S-A. Yes I have double glazing, and triple glazing in the front, as traffic has increased enormously in recent years. About a foot of stuff in the loft [courtesy of heating company last year].
Still very draughty though. Cavity wall up to 3feet high, then single brick. Told it couldn't be filled.

I see your block are using a local firm [Crittall] Metal frames aren't they? best wishes

      Hi Saly!

Don't know if Crittall are local or not, but yes, we still have the original Crittall metal frames installed when the building was put up in 1956. Over the years no attention had been made to the effects of painting layer upon layer of new paint over the original base, so that many of us were coming to find the windows becoming bent, draughty or in some cases actually impossible to close! This time around the painters stripped all windows back to the base protection layer, resulting in a job originally expected to take a month (14 flats in all) taking from the end of September to just yesterday, when the scaffolding was finally removed. And thank heavens: with the season of blowing winds now upon us it was a worry just how stable the scaffolding was; one had visions of being suddenly awakened by a scaffolding pole crashing through one's bedroom window!

What is particular annoying is that Dulwich College, our landlord, are so intransigent when it comes to this matter - one among others... And this, at a time when the government are, (or were), preaching the untold all-round benefits of home insulation. The resident's association, in which I participate, has been wondering for some time what pressure might be brought to bear. Can landlords be forced to comply, one wonders?

I am double glazed, just as well as my bedroom faces SW and last night the Banshees were howling (I think the winds were gusting around 40mph) and the rain lashing. Today certainly is the calm after the storm with brilliant sunshine. Next door are having a party, I think I have espied the barbeque getting a wash and brush up ........ So unseasonably warm yet this time last year I cut short my trip in Sussex in advance of the snow.

Wild, wilder, wildest stuff up here and seriously COLD [ do NOT get all these forecasters saying that it's unseasonably mild - not here it ain't], and if you live south of Ultima Thule and most of you do, a lot of it is coming your way.

Make sure your double-glazing is true, and well-framed.. I have one window, finely glazed, but the gale-force 24hr + westerlies Winds are finding that one of the seals round the actual glass to PVC frame is suspect. Had a bloke in to look at it, did a lot to improve it, I thought job done. But the recent blasting has found a way in.

It's been a lovely sunny day in Dundee - the sun has now of course set - but cold. I expect we'll get frost tonight.

Still balmy here! Yesterday I was wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt while triming back the ivy that borders the driveway. it's been unseasonably warm here for the past week. Colder weather is on its way no doubt. It will be time to poly the windows soon. no double glazing at our house. We have very old windows with the original wavy 18th-early 19th c. glass. They're pretty to look at but let in lots of cold air during the winter. Our house is on the National Register of Historic Places so we can't do whatever we'd like when it comes to windows.

Chilly tonight. Have powered up the electric blanket (and the Kindle) and ready for bed.

Down to + 1 C on my north facing wall-positioned max-min thermometer here last night. Which means it must've gone sub-zero further out in the unprotected open. I'm pretty sure there was frost on some cars as I cycled my way back from Camberwell last evening at eleven. Time to get out the warmer gloves!

Strong, cold gales, very drying, but just the odd fleck of drizzle in it every so often. Temp down to 0C - tho' too much wind for frost.

Dark and gloomy this morning after a wet night - but not at all cold. Greetings all round.

Although not cold, 12.2 (54) the wind is 35mph and gusting severely, a second power cut has just happened, (the first was an hour ago whilst I was in the middle of Waitrose and was quite prolonged), the rain is lashing, the leaves are whirling, it's dark, and it's the sort of afternoon you wish you were at home, with a good book, the afternoon concert. and wafts of a delicious meal coming from the kitchen.

I buy into that vision 100% Anna! Give me a shout next time and I'll hop in the car and head west!

Supposed to be rainy today but the sun's out among some cloud, as it was when I pedalled in this morning But yes - very windy, lots of swirling leaves in the parks!

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

No Chance Caliban! Severn Bridge closed and 40mph limit on M4, just after I posted another 3 cuts in quick succession, and second one knocked phones out as well! However, if you did manage to get to Bandit Country - could you bring a torch with you?
